Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

Well it didnt start. It drained the battery really quickly only able to turn it over about 5 times before the power got too weak. Could this be because it would take time for the ful to get through. Im starting to worry that the valves are not in sinc with the pistons so I double checked the...

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

My mistake, when pistons 1 & 4 are up top, 2 & 3 are at the bottom. Also each piston is at the same level as its partner. Got the valves sorted at a piston specialist place in cardiff. £330 replaced all twenty valves and some other components associated with them, new cylinder head bolts and...

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

I mentioned to someone on a different forum (not cars) that when two of the pistons were tdc the other two were half way down. He said that they should be all tyhe way to the botton. Is this correct? as I was sure they were only half way down, but I could have been mistaken. I cant check the car...

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

Thanks Burnerman, as I thought more specialist tools and more effort than I have in me at the moment. Loos like a new reconditioned or second hand head. Do you know a good source?

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

Im assuming these valves should be set at an angle so they fit the reccess and they are horizontal because they have been pushed against the piston. Also are the valve stems supposed to have a bit of a bend or are they supposed to be perfectly straight? Is replacing the valves difficult...

Here are some pics of the valves, couldnt shoot the pistons as car at relatives

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

Its definately damage. I noticed the wedge shaped sections cut out at the edge of the pistons that are part of the casting. The damage is clearly the result of the valves impacting on them. Yes out of curiosity I asked them how much would a new engine cost, they quoted £4k. The car is...

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

Thanks for all the feedback. The car is Audi A4 1996 (N) 1.8 ADR petrol engine. Cant get the number as its in a relative's garage ar the moment. I dont want to remove and inspect the pistons that would be too much hassle. Could damage to the pistons be detected by turning the crank shaft...

Audi A4 new engine or just cylinder head?

My timing belt went while driving down the motorway and engine died. I decided to take the cylinder head of to check the damage. Spent ages trying to get the right size bit that was also long enough to reach the head bolts. Finally got the spline bit to take off the head today (£24 with...

Cooker Circuit but dont have a oven yet

Thanks thats helped. I'm assumuing all these options are in addition to a dp switch up at the worktop height? Would the connection to the hob ignition require a separate switch as well as a fcu or could I use a switched fused spur with a 3a fuse to take the place of both?

Cooker Circuit but dont have a oven yet

I have got to the stage in my house rewire where I am putting in an oven circuit. I dont know which oven to get yet and dont have the funds to get one. I have designed the circuit around a 7kw oven. So will have 30amp mcb, 6mm cable (about 20m long and taking into acount the route etc cable will...

    Safe zone?

Thats the other guys argument and he suggests that anybody looking at this corner at a later date (from an electrical point of view) will naturally assume this, to be on the safe side.

    Safe zone?

Thanks for all the advice. A guy on another forum (electriciansforums) is confident that diagram 1 is correct so I think I will go with option 1. If it proves wrong on inspection it will be easy enought to change.

    Safe zone?

Through? Now thats an idea. Maybe better than behind as it could be clearly seen when the socket plate is removed. Anyone else think this is a good solution? If so I think I will go this route. Dont want the extra hassle and expense of earthed steel conduit but thanks for the suggestion.

    Safe zone?

Not much feedback, maybe I havent explained myself well. What I'm asking is does the safe zone in the corner go like fig 1 2 or 3. If 1 then Im OK, if 2 then I could bend the cable in to the window frame to bring it back into the zone. Might fig 3 (below) be the case? Where position...

    Safe zone?

yes. Switch not ideally placed I would have to cut into ground floor ciling joists to get to it. If the options suggested are not a good idea another corner would be better than the switch. No service duct or soil pipe. Were a bit primitive here in Wales we still have downstairs toilets :)

    Safe zone?

No previous circuits present, everything stripped out and render hacked back to bare stone, airing cupboard also gone and not going to be replaced. I could use a different corner but as I mentioned I would like to be as efficient as I can with the circuit route. The consumer unit is just...
