Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

I'll wait for things to get worse before going there...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

I'll give it a go when I get back. Although I can perfectly understand concerns over my mains flow, I don't really feel like it is an issue here, I have lived in other places where that was definitely a thing, but my current shower works really great, if not the best shower I have ever lived...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Sounds like I need to reduce the HW temperature on the boiler (if I want to have colder showers) during summer and increase the temperature during winter? As in the tap on the bath or the basin? Can't confirm 100% on the basin (although I didn't feel significant reduction in it for the couple...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Yes, I opened the basin tap and the water temp kept fluctuating, it also didn't take much of that tap being open to considerably reduce the flow on the shower.

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

So this has happened again twice in 2 days. Both times happened after the Mrs jumped out of the shower and I went straight in after. Turning the basin hot tap on didn't make it better (only reduced the flow on the shower), removing the shower head didn't "fix" it either. One thing that did...

Will try as well! Easy for me to do in me small bathroom - can reach the basin taps from the shower:D ...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Will do! Will also test the tap in the bath. I can't imagine the shower head being in that bad of a state, it's brand new (from October actually), I can't recall the brand and model, but it's a fairly big one that has plenty of power. Never felt at any point the pressure or flow was off, but I...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

I wouldn't have minded the old system if it weren't for a few things that I don't equate with modern living: - The hot water cylinder was taking up too much space in the spare room, it also made the room unusable in the warmer days. This room is now my office and serves an actual purpose! - Hot...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

I am wondering if the flow could be an issue on the hotter days also? We are down in Kent and the heat has been murder in the last few days, we keep getting emails from the water company asking customers to mind their water usage and how some in the community might be affected by supply issues...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Thanks, will give it a go next time it happens, which seems to be quite random at times! Went through a couple of weeks without the issue!

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Thanks, you've forced me go and read a bit more on the subject. We did test the mains water flow rate before having the boiler installed, which was more than adequate. I also noticed much better pressure and flow coming through the shower when the system was changed to combi (to the point some...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

What do you mean by "larger" shower? And if fitting one could have adverse effects, what is the actual proper solution to all of this then?

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Hi Bernard, That's very informative, thanks. I assume this is why this is more noticeable for the second person using the shower in a short period of time? Also, how do I go about the "solution" though? Is this only about upgrading my bathroom hardware? How does a thermostatic mixer addresses...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the input. We plan on renovating the bathroom in the following year, but until then, I'd like to understand what could potentially be happening here? I am completely clueless when it comes to plumbing, but how could these fittings impact the temperature? I have always felt...

Shower alternates between hot and cold... Boiler is fine.

Earlier in the summer started noticing sporadic hot/cold intermittent supply. Hot supply for a couple of minutes and then endless hot/cold alternates, the cold cycle seems to last around 10 seconds, with the hot cycle a bit more. This is not an everyday occurrence, although it seems to happen...

    Messy subfloor...

Thanks Ken, only saw your post today. The felt is definitely not an "original" feature, it was only present in this area and just under a newer floorboard in the living room. I suppose the old owner was a bit worried about damp when doing these fixes. The felt under the cement wasn't ideal...

    Messy subfloor...

Some context: 1930s house, groundfloor is all concrete with a thick layer of bitumen on top, most of the house is floorboards that were laid on top of the bitumen (probably once it was still hot...) and nailed down with flooring brads. Yes, apparently that was a thing back in the 1930s... whole...

Old floorboards - what is underneath?

Damp company came around and did a survey. Really informative guy that appears to know what he is talking about, no cowboy techniques that I have read about the damp industry. Used the common "protimeter" but did state it should only be used on wood (good), the only section of the boards in...

Old floorboards - what is underneath?

The layer of bitumen appears to be around 3-4mm, some sections seem pretty flat, other have detached and glued to the floorboards. Surface of the concrete is fairly dusty (can be seen in the video of the original post). Concrete itself feels solid, can't really scratch at it with a teaspoon...
