    Integrated Appliances

Personally I would run a trailing socket from the FCU to the rear of the fridge, and allow it to lie under the units. Pushing the fridge (or indeed any appliance) back on the plug is not the best idea. Certain appliances like a dishwasher that i saw recently, create a lot of heat on the rear (in...

    Why is my MCB buzzing?

Is the MCB bussing internally or on the connection at either the top or bottom? The connections to the MCB must be made as tight as possible with a large screwdriver (without overdoing it) More likely the fault is inside the breaker in which case it needs to be replaced with an identical...

Switched fused connection unit with RCD?

yes, they exist, but are very uncommon at least here. I have seen one once, maybe twice but that's it. (they are appropriate for certain installations but a 100MA is in compliance and a lot more common. RCD's can actually be got in many other tripping ratings such as 40MA 50MA 70Ma, 72MA (don't...

    oven bulb blowing

No, you would not be right in thinking this. There are many reasons why the bulb might blow, i cannot see how switching on a kettle or extractor would have any effect on the bulb. Why do you think so? Possible problems: Incorrect bulb - the bulb is not correctly rated for the high...

    recommend me a electric shower

generally not very easy, i happened to be beside the trafo and hence was simple enough to do. I also work with esb here (design end of things, but i know the electricians) well so that sorted it! ESB workers are exempt from the standing charge so i don't know but it would be considerable. I...

    recommend me a electric shower

i have five showers on all supplied directly from an unvented hot water cylinder in the garage. Best setup I’ve had yet. I also have a single 9.5kw electric, there is no comparison. In Ireland 60A is still standard with 100A supplies uncommon (except my 125A 3-phase - great to be in the...

    Industrial electrics

how do ye wire welders over there? Sawn off nail in plugtop is common here (they won't even clamp it properly in place) Along with the occasional case of stripping wire back (with a cig. lighter) and shove it into the socket directly. Earth wire falls out as it's not held in the guard - what...

    shower cable

I was trying to give a simple answer. Due to the short length or run here I believe 6mmsq to be adequate. 41.3A is well within the design overload characteristics of a 40A Type B MCB. Protecting 6sq with a 45A MCB is pushing it regardless of the installation method (with the possible exception...

New Kitchen - Help with electrics

I presume that these are two separate circuits Although a little messy (and poorly designed) I cannot see anything seriously wrong with this circuit. It doesn’t have to have. Although having a socket behind an appliance like that is impractical and in my view bad design. Could you clarify...

    shower cable

i think that post was a little mesleading breezer although there are many more. The simple answer to your question is yes. but use a 40A MCB not a 45A. Bear in mind that should you decide to upgrade your shower in the future you will need to upgrade the cable to 10mmsq.

    Industrial electrics

Then you probably shoudn't be opening them! try switching off the isolator on the front first. the door won't open until you do this for safety purposes

    Seperate Cooker And Hob

This is a quote from another topic. I'll take his word for it. Two separate circuit's although ideal are not required here. You can, if you wish upgrade the breaker to a 40A. Yes, 6mmsq cable to feed FCU. As for where to spur from, wherever is easiest, CCU (switch) is probably best.

    Seperate Cooker And Hob

There is no need to up the breaker to 40A. The absolute maxloading here is 33A, this is well within the overload parameters of the MCB an is not an issue. As for upgrading to 45A this should under no circumstances be done as it is exceeding the rating of the cable. Absolutely pointless anyway...

    Seperate Cooker And Hob

This is not strictly speaking correct, but not a huge issue. The set-up you describe sounds fine, may I advise against having a new socket or switched fused connection unit behind the oven. In an adjoining press etc. might be more appropriate. Personally I would spur of the cooker circuit...
