    electric nightmare

feldri, this is not a problem and no transformer is required. The voltage between one phase and neutral is 230V. However dealing with the electrical system in this workshop is not a DIY job and you will require an electrician

    big PC problem?

You need to be careful here, it is inadvisable to re-install an operating system without formatting the disk. Win XP has a 'repair' function, which will replace the corrupted/missing file(s), but older versions do not. Anyway if you do reinstall win me for example it will wipe the disk not just...

    Type C & D breakers

I'm not one bit surprised, this is not lethal however as FWL has stated will prevent the installation from meeting the applicable disconnection times and therefore does not comply with the regs (which incidentally are very similar to those in the U.K, despite being (in my opinion) less...

    Meter Isolation

Yes, most of the new meters are fitted with internal isolators. The tails from the service head are connected to the bottom of the meter as before and this is sealed with a supply board seal. At the top of the meter then is cover, behind which is the connections for the customers 16mmsq supply...

Why ban? what is the advantage of this over a split load board? There is nothing stopping you from fitting an RCBO to a split load. In Ireland reci rules state that the shower circuit must be protected by an RCBO. So this is simply installed in the 'non rcd side' if you like of a standard split...

I agree with alot of you points here however to pick one: Computer room in school with 32PC's with associated hardware monitor, speakers etc. (supplied via 3 X 20A rings) 2 televisions 2 printers 1 projector (cant think what you call them, computer can be connected to them along with t.v)...

    New CU

I didn't say it was OTT. I have 30ma RCBO's in my own house. The point i was making is that they are a much more expensive option than a split load setup. One advantage of them is that all circuits will not be left without power in the event of a fault on one although they have many other...

    New CU

The regs state any socket, which could be used to supply a device to be used outside. Do you fit notices beside sockets in your house - This socket can be used to supply equipment to be used outdoors, but this socket here cannot! OK! I’m joking, but in all honesty FWL i cannot see where your...

    New CU

I agree with splitting the kitchen ring from the remainder of the house, and as ban said would add an extra circuit for utility (and also sitting room). However for somebody who quotes 16th edition to the letter, i am suprised at FWL's comments in respect to RCD protecting sockets. Kitchen...

    Ceiling electricity not working

another possibility (and the last bit of useful advice I can give I’m afraid) is a faulty bulb holder. (the unit into which the bulb fits into). A visual inspection is all you can do here. You'll probably find the top screws off and up. If I can be of any more assistance feel free to ask.

    Ceiling electricity not working

ok ursa, i hate having to say it but lighting circuits can get a little complicated and without the correct test equipment. and as i cant actually see your installation, i would have to advise calling an electrician. The fault could exist in the ceiling rose of an adjoining bedroom or to be...

    Ceiling electricity not working

Are their two screws on either the top or the bottom of the switch if so then you should be testing the single terminal (probably on the top) and the terminal with the wire connected to it on the bottom. The info you give suggests that the switch is faulty but the light should be lighting all...

    Ceiling electricity not working

to test the switch - turn on the power (at the fuse box) and carefully test both terminals (screws which wires are connected to, top and bottom of switch) then flick the switch and test again. Post you results here. Then we will be able to tell you for sure wheather you need an electrician...

    MY LIGHTING IS MADNESS

This is very hard to follow. I presume by one way you mean one gang, which is different. Lets get this straight, there were no problems until you changed the switches. you bought a replacement switch for the upstairs landing light which is also controlled by a switch down stairs. your...
