Batten lamp holder - enclosure or direct to plaster?

Thanks, but the one I had already does have knockouts, the reason I was considering a new one was the lack of full plastic enclosure like a ceiling rose adapter (my Mum's 1962 council house was full of them - and the wiring was behind the plasterboard. High spec eh?) and I was hoping the modern...

Batten lamp holder - enclosure or direct to plaster?

Interesting, sounds like it may be a grey area then if it's not considered good practice but there is debate on here. Anyway, done it now, (and not particularly bothered in this instance as the plaster is plaster on brick, not PB, plus expect the whole house will be rewired in next 5 years)...

That's fine then, thanks, will replace like for like :D

Batten lamp holder - enclosure or direct to plaster?

Unsheathed in that the grey sheathing is removed (inside the enclosure only, am using T+E cable) to allow the brown and blue (and green/yellow) insulated cores to reach the terminals. My concern was that a ceiling rose has a plastic backplate, as does a light switch, and I thought a batten...

Batten lamp holder - enclosure or direct to plaster?

Hi there, Just wanted to pick brains. I am replacing a length of VIR cable at home from an existing junction box to a batten lamp holder. The lamp holder is screwed to the wall, and the cable is and will be clipped direct. Previous cable was connected behind the lampholder, but as...

HETAS Engineers a bunch of lying so and so's....

mbga9pgf - You are a smug dude, I can see why others object to your attitude, but I do see your point: the BCO can't see much now. It would have been better to notify first, but I have been told (by a HETAS lecturer) that it is allowed to notify on completion, and, even if you sell you can...

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

This was TS Warwickshire getting involved. The lady who wrote to me was apparently the Home Authority Officer for this company. Not sure what that means, but sounds like I was lucky! Prices on tills and TS? Yep, been there! Sadly in the UK, the law lets them wiggle round it. In Italy...

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

Thanks to all those who commented. It was nice to be able to say with conviction that I couldn't find anyone who thought 7 months a reasonable lifespan!

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

Good news. Following my post on this forum, I also contacted CAB who pretty much confirmed what we have mostly been saying, ie that Triton should not be using a 90 warranty to evade its responsibilities under the Sale of Goods Act (but that Triton might require me to prove the item was...

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

In my case it is 7 months, so it IS the other way round :( AlanE. In this case, the spare part was purchased direct from the manufacturer, hence Triton is also the retailer :(

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

I agree that the quality seems to be on a par, but at least the people selling Mira spares seemed to be offering better warranty terms when I looked, and some of the parts (at least the ones that I had to replace on my own shower) were more competitively priced.

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

Thanks for that. The Which? idea in particular is something I would not have thought of! The thing that strikes me as particularly silly is that Triton has now lost a customer as my new shower is a Mira, so I will not be spending _any_ more money on Triton parts.

Triton spares guarantee VS Sale of Goods Act? Am I unfair?

I just thought I would bore you all with a recent experience I have had with a Triton shower spare - a heating can with a failed element after 7 months. By way of background, I replaced the original due to severe kettling after 4 years of use, and had no problem with having to do that. This...

Holkham oil paint vs Bedec Barn vs Dulux weathershield

Just a quick update. Had a chance to look at the Holkham (Allback) and Bedec up close today (15th May 2014) Neither shows any sign of failure and both are looking to be in good condition. It seems some people on the web have had mould problems with Holkham (Allback paint). I cannot...

Holkham oil paint vs Bedec Barn vs Dulux weathershield

I think some of the oil may soak in, the paint itself stays on the surface. I wouldn't say the grain IS visible. What you are looking at in the picture is a very scrappy bit of pallet, with a couple of shakes and a bit gashed out near the top of the photo. The pallet scrap in the picture...

Best bodge ever? Anyone fancy a laugh?

Apparently it was one, but then it got cracked. And who can convince an octogenarian that it isn't safe?

At least it can be unplugged... (No, I didn't do it, in case you were wondering)
