I'd recommend installing a magnatech. Not only does this protect your boiler and pipework, it makes installing inhibitor a breeze.

Failed o rings, diverter valve, heat exchanger…

Check the lockshield valve - you may need to open it. The TRV valve may be stuck. Repeatedly tap it with a mallet until it springs back up.
