Downlighters in kitchen ceiling - notifiable??

I'd say that was a VERY good price, though as you can see i'm based in London, thought that's not necessarily a good excuse! However, do ensure the electrician is Part 'P' qualified and a member of a domestic installer scheme as operated by the NICEIC, ECA, etc otherwise he's no better qualified...

Best way of cutting large cable?

Has anyone tried that new tool - Kewtech possibly - that scores SWA like a plumbers pipe cutter? Look like a neat idea, except I'd probably lose it and have to resort to the junior hacksaw as usual. Anyway, in answer to the original post.... why would you want to cut it? Can't your wife do it...

polystyrene beads and electrical cable twin and earth

Thanks 'sheds'. I unreservedly apologise for my comments and prepraszam (yes I can pronounce it - I had a Polish wife and travelled extensively in Poland!) to our Polish friends and colleagues. Funny enough 'cowboys' is the same in both languages! It's just I had another of these dodgy jobs at...

    Electrics Advice (Outside)

No... your instructions say 30 milli-amp RCD! Get the electrician in to do it and then you can concentrate on the fish!

polystyrene beads and electrical cable twin and earth

Ah! that would explain why the average Pole tries to wire a lighting cicuit like a ring!!

polystyrene beads and electrical cable twin and earth

I hope to God you're being ironic! If not please temper your wit! There are enough idiots out there without encouraging another one to strip the insualtion off his cable using nitromors by candlelight!!

Buying House - Inspection Report Concerns

You worry me! Ok maybe 'no obligation' but we've got not earth continuity to the lighting so there goes the bonding in the bathroom... we've got a fault on the ring (DB1 sockets) so let's play russian roulette with the extension lead out to the garden... And I'm just guessing that the tails to...

    17th edition

In a nutshell, the 17th is looking for ALL circuits to be RCD/RCBO protected, so where, in a bathroom you may have had underfloor heating installed on a ring(RCD protected of course!!), plus lighting, and will, of course, have linked your supplementary bonding to both local circuits cpc...

    Problems with fuseboard

Hi AFC, I am assuming the RCD is upstream of the four fuses, ie protecting the whole economy 7 installation. First off, just to explain the different functions of a fuse and RCD. A fuse (rewireable or mcb) is an overcurrent device and basically trips or blows when too much current flows for...

    Oven Installation

Thanks Taylor... I feel the same way too... and with apologies to original post (who appears to have his act together) I don't mind sharing knowledge. I see so much shoddy, incompetent and dangerous work that I don't like to add fuel to the fire. I agree that the gov has to make it's mind up...

Buying House - Inspection Report Concerns

Get this guy back! He may just save someone's life! No-one has commented on the bonding issues here either. It is written in bold type on the back of certificates that if main and supplementary bonding is missing work must cease until this is rectified! No RCD's ?? Why justify lack of compliance...

    Oven Installation

Hi, Guys, I'm not having a go here... this is one of the most straightforward question & answer postings I've seen for a while. Your man seems to know, more or less, what he's doing and you/we have given a correct solution. Given this is, according to the 'rules' a special location and ...

HELP!!! Oven broke after flicking MCB switch to OFF

Did you check the fuse in the oven plug top? Also no-one has asked why you 'flicked off the MCB switch'. Do you mean the cicuit breaker in the fuse board? Why did you do this? - it is designed to provide cicuit protection, not switching, but if you have damaged this then your hob ignition...

help needed with electrics on a combination steam shower

Sorry mate, if you have to ask these questions you really shouldn't attempt it. Do yourself a favour and get a registered electrician to sort it - that way you can relax in your bath rather than worry whether you're going to 'ride the white lightning' !
