System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

We added an extra layer of loft insulation, so it is now about 60cm thick. Then we've fitted heavy curtains and a curtain with a portiere rack on the front door. We've also sorted a few draughty spots like the window frames and we sealed a gap around the living room window with some expanding...

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

An adult doing nothing emits about 100W I was told. Two of us in the living room plus the TV and the modem/WiFi router is probably about 450W of heat output. Most of the year this alone is enough to heat the room with the door to the hallway closed. If the heating is on in the rest of the house...

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

I meant that the hystersis is huge. It goes up to 65 even when the temp should be 50 and goes off for upwards of 20 whilst the temperatures slowly fall to the low 40s.

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

The flow and return are about 8C apart but I can change this by restricting the flow. Once the burner shuts off then they drop gradually as you'd expect. I checked the thermocouples when I got them in boiling water and they seemed ok.

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

That is how I would expect it to work @Johntheo5. But the flow temps seem all over the place so either it's faulty or my thermocouples are mis-reading. My manual is here https://www.freeboilermanuals.com/assets/pdf/ideal/203318-inst.pdf and it doesn't mention hysteresis or anything relevant...

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

I'm in South East Wales at low elevation. It was 18C in the hallway this morning, without the heating on, and near 20C upstairs where I am now. It's a well insulated house and we've got thick curtains up. Also blocked a few of the gaps and holes the builders left. @Johntheo5 is it meant to...

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

Ah this is interesting @oilhead 12 degrees above and belowy setting could explain what I am seeing. 62 down to 38 would suggest I've got it set to 50. With the pump running the water would never go down to 38 as the water in the cylinder is warmer than that. Is the +/- 12 degrees figure...

System boiler flow temperature fluctuates wildly

Hi all. I've been reading up on my heating system to try and optimise it. It was bought from the builders in 2007 and I don't think they did any kind of setup or tuning of the system. It's an S-plan system with an Ideal Icos HE-12, in a three storey well insulated house in a mild part of the...
