Which flat render - STO or K-Rend etc.

Hi Dasbo, I don't suppose you ever got this done and can recommend someone local?

What render would you advise for this?

I've got a 1970s house with all the external walls covered in dry dash render. I'm looking to replace it with something a bit better looking, either with the stones in the mix (smaller stones too) or a smoothish/slightly textured render. It'd be good if the colour was part of the mix so it...

Cutting through concrete with a hole saw?

Cutting through concrete with a hole saw?

I've got a EcoLED downlight to be installed above my front door which will replace the 20+ year old UFO look a like that's currently there. The 'roof' of the porch where the light will go into appears to be chipboard that's had a 2-3mm skim of cement on it. I need to drill an 86mm hole for...

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

In all honesty it only came into my head as I don't know myself how good 100m head positive/negative protection is. As mentioned the building control guy reckoned it was a hell of a lot but it's not my game, I'm just learning bit by bit as I move along. The interests there now though, I'm...

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

That looks good pinenot! Last question, I promise. There's no problems that can occur from tanking both sides of the wall are there? I'm guessing what I'm talking about doing externally may not count as tanking as it's just directing water away from the wall rather than waterproofing it like...

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

The linked detail is very similar other than the base, where theirs has the DPM sandwiched between two concrete layers. It was RIW technical that advised on the detail I've used but I've still got my doubts hence why I keep ending up back here  I draw steelwork for oil rigs as my day job...

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

That's a good point, she's pretty decent so probably wouldn't mind what I get up to!

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

Sorry, in my haste I forgot to reply to your question. Wall is single skin 215mm block.

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

The cementseal is what RIW recommend for internal tanking basement refurbishment, it's good for 100m head positive/negative water pressure apparently. I don't know much about this but building control thought it was quite a lot? In all honesty if I can't get something to work here then it's as...

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

I did consider this as I found 50mm perf pipe, my only concern was the rubble fill as it'd then be stepping over the property boundary, perhaps it's no concern as it's only rubble and it'll be covered with turf again? Not sure what to do :?

    Question on land drainage/tanking/retaining wall

Fella's, I've finished drawing up my garage and had decided on internal tanking but I'm looking for second opinions. The garage is 10m long and the adjacent properties ground level starts 200mm above my FFL at the front and ends up 800mm above FFL at the rear. The houses are built on a hill...

Question on foul drain / adding storm water drains

SW drainpipe is there because I was told I'd need it by the architect originally involved, apparently the rainwater calc needed the two as it's taking the surface area of the house roof and garage. Apparently one wasn't enough. I'll dig out the formula and do my own calc tonight though, just...

Hi pinenot, I am a complete moron. I attached the link to the wrong picture! This is the updated one which should make sense with the text

Question on foul drain / adding storm water drains

Hi Pinenot, Here's how I think the drains are all tying together, or at least this would make sense given the results of my hose pipe tests yesterday!! Where I've shown the pipe tying in (running underneath the house) could be anywhere between the drain pipe and the manhole cover. Where...

Question on foul drain / adding storm water drains

Will update sketch tomorrow at my cad machine. Basically my existing layout is wrong, I thought it travelled along the back wall of the house and tied into the east drain pipe. It doesn't, it ties in downstream of here so I think the drainage must run underneath the house or it travels south...

Question on foul drain / adding storm water drains

Ok I had dyno-rod round earlier clearing the drainpipe on the west side of the house so I did a bit of investigation. The base of that drain pipe appears to go into a trapped gulley. It doesn't join the rest of the drain system at the rear of the house like I expected. When I run the hose...

Question on foul drain / adding storm water drains

Haha unfortunately it's very much so the 'house that the 70's built', when I say that I mean they were probably off their faces on drugs! That layout you've drawn makes sense and would certainly be the least hassle as I'm re-doing the garden/drive anyway. I'll have a water cylinder...
