Your using the term bolt. Is it a sprung loaded latch? The strike should simply replace the keep of what is a standard arrangement of sprung loaded latch and keep that will lock under the presure of a door closer.

I can't belive any plasterer would reccomend plastering over a ceramic tile. I might stand corrected but I don't think this is possible.

I can't comment on the job your plasterers have done but in my experience, of house renovation plastering is a very messy game. The plaster should virtualy sweep off floorboards, allowing you to carpet. Unless you where planning exposed boards? I have a good plasterer and I would not let him run...
