Damp / salt second opinion please.

Thanks JJ It only seems to be a winter problem. This old damp issue seems to be a well debated issue. Its either rising or ventilation or another problem and some people are adamant, rising damp don't even exist. I have been told its not rising damp and there is no point injecting. These are...

Thanks JJ. That seems to be the advise elsewhere. Also I think I have stumbled upon article that seems to make sense regards the lack of ventilation under my suspended floors.

But, there is white powder forming in patches all over the area and I have been told this is not a damp issue but salt comming out of the wall. The chap also said the...

Inside Of House Feels Colder Than Outside

I disagree with woody. I live in a 1930's bungalow that we have been demolishing / rebuilding over the last few years. Central heating was done at a fairly early stage, and despite flogging the heating, had come to the conclusion this house was expensive to heat and could never be really warm in...

Electric Door Strike! Can anyone help?

Your using the term bolt. Is it a sprung loaded latch? The strike should simply replace the keep of what is a standard arrangement of sprung loaded latch and keep that will lock under the presure of a door closer.

Very large willow tree near to house

Our recent extension had to be piled as a result of its close proximity to a mature willow tree. I asked my architect, off the record, if I can just cut it down. He thought this was likely to have a far greater detrimental effect. It was all a bit of a bummer really, it cost us a further 6...

    Bamboo as a screening plant

Most varieties are slow to establish but then go very tall and like the clappers. Your neighbour will be having inch thick runners popping up in the centre of his lawn  Some of the big leaf varieties are also a bit messy at certain times of the year.

Garage doors - retractable vs sectional?

Sectional doors are better that rigid retractable doors and it is possible to fit a sectional door between the pillars. It is also believable the sectional door comes in cheaper than a "one piece". He does sound like he knows what he's talking about and if you can afford the sectional door, you...

    Plastering mess! Help!

I can't comment on the job your plasterers have done but in my experience, of house renovation plastering is a very messy game. The plaster should virtualy sweep off floorboards, allowing you to carpet. Unless you where planning exposed boards? I have a good plasterer and I would not let him run...

There is a very specific way to drill a cylinder, which is you get wrong will turn into a dogs dinner with ruined lock body and broken drill bits. Unfortunately no one with that knowledge would share in a chat room. Call a lock smith. It will take him 5 mins.
