    Exposed Shower Mixer - issues!

hi squeaky, thanks for getting back to me on this & thanks for your advice. I did some more research and pulled out the bath waste pipe (goes through the external wall). I then had a nose around with a torch and thankfully it looks like you're right - the inner skin is around 10cm thick so...

    Exposed Shower Mixer - issues!

Hi guys, I'm currently fitting a new bath and shower, and we've hit a snag with the exposed shower mixer. The house is 1930's, the original bathroom is on the ground floor, and is in a small room which is built on the side of the house (3 external walls, & roof). We wanted to chase the...

    Central Heating Quotes

Thank you for the replies, very much appreciated! We're hoping to get a nice balance of performance vs price, not necessarily the cheapest quote so long as it offers good value. I've arranged for two more companies to provide us with a quote this week so hopefully we'll be able to get a...

    Central Heating Quotes

Hi, thank you for getting back to me. We are based in Salisbury Yeah, I did some investigating online and it seems our quotes are rather pricey. We didn't have the money to do it in summer, unfortunately! I think we'll probably get a couple of extra quotes to compare, because i'm not...

    Central Heating Quotes

Hi, We've just had a couple of quotes for a new central heating system, and I wanted to see if you guys thought the quotes were reasonable or expensive. We're having 6 radiators fitted (lounge, kitchen, bathroom towel rail, bed1, bed2, & bed3). They will also be fitting 5m external pipe...

    Roof window install

Hi guys, The 2nd roofer came round yesterday as planned and has finished the patching job on the flashing, i'm really happy with it! Have a look and see what you think :) I'm making progress with the extended light tunnel too: Anyway, thanks again for the advice on the...

New gas connection - how to route gas pipe?

heh, fair enough. I had no idea what the technical term was for the 'massive pipe' I was seeing so I just guessed, though I think it might actually be called a toilet vent pipe, or something like that :) Not our place, but this is similar to what we have outside: :)

New gas connection - how to route gas pipe?

Ok, that's brilliant! Shouldn't be anything to worry about then. I think we'll probably opt for running the pipe around the walls on the outside surface. The gap between the bathroom/utility room is only used for storing our wheelie bins, and there's already a flue pipe for the toilet...

New gas connection - how to route gas pipe?

Interesting, would it be OK to run the pipe from the box, on the outside, all the way around to the utility room do you think? (in a large C shape) would it need to be at a certain height? Unfortunately, the bathroom and utility rooms have concrete floors (the rest of the house is suspended)

New gas connection - how to route gas pipe?

Hi guys, We've just received a £900 quote from SGN to fit a gas connection to our house (we have no existing connection) in preparation for a new central heating system. In the quote they state they will fit the box no more than 2 meters down the side of the house (we're semi-detached)...

    Roof window install

Ok quick update on this - we're getting someone else in on Monday to patch up the flashing and the surrounding tiles. Fingers crossed it should be a lot tidier, will post another photo when it's done!

    Roof window install

I *think* it's the right flashing kit. It's EDP which is supposedly for tiles up to 15mm thick, and our tiles are about 14.5 so it's close! I think the foam bit you're talking about is on the EDZ kits, but apparently the new(ish) EDP kit is preferred over these if the tile is 15mm or thinner...

    Roof window install

Thank you very much for your feedback on this. Having thought about it a bit more I think what we're going to do is just put the joist back next to where it was originally and then we'll build a flared light tunnel in the middle, tapering back to almost the other side of the room This room...

    Roof window install

Hi, we had a 55x78cm Velux window fitted by a local roofer over the weekend in our ground floor extension, and I just want to get some opinions on what you think about the job. Here's a pic of the outside: And here's a pic of the inside: It'd be great to get some feedback on the...

    Does this look viable?

Hi guys, I've never fitted a roof window before, but I'm hoping to fit two new 55x78cm Velux or Keylite windows opposite each other in our ground floor bathroom. I've just cleared the ceiling plasterboards to inspect the area above. I've taken some photos and scribbled on them to try to...

    What is this stuff?

Hi guys, I was just about to start ripping down the ceiling in our bathroom when i noticed that the plasterboard had a grey/blue tint in the plaster (within the plasterboard), and that the paper lining seemed to be old & fibrous. Which got me thinking that the paper and/or plaster might...
