    Changing Main Stop Cock

Hi John I'm guessing the pipe has been there since the house was built in 1987. It's not very easy to see where the leak is coming from but I think it's coming through the spindle - is it ok to try and gently tighten? Steve

    Changing Main Stop Cock

I'm currently installing a new kitchen in our house, and have noticed that the existing main stop cock is leaking a little. The pipe entering the house is blue MDPE and measuring roughly, I assume that it is 32mm (house was built in 1987) The current stop cock joins directly to the 32mm...

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Quick update Bled the secondary pump yesterday - it's a complete bitch to access but there was certainly a lot of air coming out. And now the circulation appears to be working fine. Thanks for all the help Steve

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Thanks Mysteryman The pump is able to be isolated from the system by a gate valve either side of it. To vent it, should I be just using the bleed screw, or would I be better to islolate it, remove it and give it a flush through? Cheers Steve

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Access to the pump is not great - it's in a restricted loft space behind the cylinder So, I'm not absolutely sure that it is pumping - would certainly account for it not seeming to work. It's whirring though Can I bleed it by using the main screw on the front of it?

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Sorry for delay - broadband problems It's a standard vented cylinder

    Secondary Pump not pumping

I'm pretty sure I haven't touched any of the loops for the return circuits but I will have another look. I guess it might be another job for an expert if I can't work it out. As a matter of interest, how quickly should the secondary pump get hot water round the system. Every sink has...

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Hey Picasso I've not touched the pump itself; just added a new digital timer to replace the manual one which was previously there. When we moved in, the secondary pump was running continuously but I was running out of hot water very quickly and figured it was pretty inefficient. My...

    Secondary Pump not pumping

Hello all I recently posted a question about controlling the bronze pump on my hot water system. After taking some advice, I purchased a single channel honeywell timer, which I have programmed to work alongside my main DHW / CH controller. The problem I have is that although the timer...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Thanks mysteryman I did actually have a quick look at the boiler you suggested a few days ago but it seems to be a gas boiler and unfortunately I'm on oil. But I think that I'm going to have to suffer the expense of having a decent heating engineer in to convert the system to S plan so...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Thanks for all the responses I checked in the loftspace last night and definitely do just have a single 3 port valve at the minute. So, it seems that I either need to have this valve replaced with 3 x 2 port valves to make a "S" plan set up, or add an additional 3 port valve as described...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Thanks Tony I'm struggling to cope with 2 3 port valves next to each other and so think this needs to be handed over to an expert. Interestingly, my house is close to 300sq m and I read somewhere that above 150 sq metres, S plan should be used in preference to Y plan Is this purely to...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

I was asking about the system design because from what you've said, it's fairly important to get this onto a seperate zone. I'm hoping that the supply to the area of the house with the UFH was discreet from other feeds and therefore adding a zone valve hopefully won't cause too many problems...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Ah Should have read that final response before posting again. Unfortunately, I believe that my central heating is of Y plan design. Does this make it more complicated to add an additional valve to than an S plan type? Steve

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Sorry, I should have given more information. The continental system I have does have its own pump and mixing valve which I assumed would therefore take the water from the central heating and down mix to the required floor temperature. Therefore, is there any advantage of plumbing this to a...

Why a seperate zone for UFH?

Good morning everyone I've got to the point of sorting the plumbing for the new UFH which has been installed in the kitchen. The system is made by Continental and they state that it must be installed on a different zone to the rest of the heating. I guess my question is why? I...

Using washing machine valves as drain valves

Thanks for the responses Slightly confused now. If I'm correct, you're saying that ball valves are ok to use in principle but that washing machine valves may not be very good quality. What type of valves are the type A and B? And are washing machine valves not full bore? The ones...

Using washing machine valves as drain valves

Good morning I'm getting on with the plumbing in the kitchen and utility today. I've removed some uneeded pipe in the utility room and now only require hot and cold water, and a cold feed for the washing machine. The hot water to the sink is a circulating system. I want to put drain...
