Additional 3rd Switch for Landing Light

Ideally you would carry a variety of cables to suit all situations. In practice I standardise on simple Twin and earth and Triple and earth for lighting. Not heard of three-way switching unless you mean an intermediate switch between two two-way switches! I use junction boxes a lot in lighting...

    noise from boiler

Brutal person. Why be so nasty to a boiler? Turn gas off. Then put heating on. Check pump works by undoing large screw on motor end. Rotor can be seen then. Have newspaper ready for small water leak. If pump does not work buy one of those new pumps with three flow options controlled by switch...

    Pump

I would investigate low pressure first. On a ground floor you should have enough pressure not to need pump. Could someone have turned your stopcock almost off?

    Water Hammer

Sorry did not solve problem by running taps but air trapped somewhere! If you are sure not in pipework perhaps in boiler on hotwater side?

    Primatic Cylinder

I remember those prehistoric things. Problem I see was that no inhibitor could be added to the radiator side as it could escape into the hot water. Best consigned to the bin when you can and replace with a bigger hot water cylinder. My sister had a neat one with additionally two electrical...

    External MDF

Interesting idea. I have never seen it. Whats wrong with marine ply?

    Radiator problem

They should turn off completely if required. The ones I have turn easily to a low point but you need to push past a friction point to completely turn off.

    Blanking off unwanted lights

Keep a drawing of cable run in case another owner wants them back again!

    Pump straining

Sounds like you have got 'air' in the system. Normally caused by lack of correct inhibitor. After putting in bleed radiators.

    Water Hammer

Get rid off air in pipework. Usually trapped in remote end. Try running all taps in turn. With cold water tank in attic can have oscillation causing ballcock to rapidly open & close when almost full.

Additional 3rd Switch for Landing Light

Assume the two lights are switched by two two-way switches. What you need now is an Intermediate switch between the two other switches. Cost about £3. Live in one end, then twin & earth all the way through to last switch, then switched live to lights. Ideally you would use special 1mm twin &...

    Shower room

Just make sure base is solid so tray does not deflect under load!

    Wiring an Electrical Oven

As under 20A I would take ordinary 2.5mm twin and earth from oven to flex outlet plate in wall. Then take cable in wall in oval ducting up to convenient point for fused switched connection unit with neon indicator. Socket for fixed equipment not recommended. If you use a higher rated oven...

    Mirror tiles scratched.

Guess you have some deep scratches not easily polished out. If only on outer tile edges I would consider a decorative edging preferably plastic or an interesting paint effect using emulsion for easy removal in case you dislike the look.

    Two way dimmer

Dimmer should control light level whichever end you are as live passes through both switches onto lamp. So if dimmer control set so low light appears off then you will not be able to see if other two way switch is putting light on or off! Therefore I would use dimmers only on one way switching.

    RADIATORS

System gunged up by corrosion. Needs cleaning out followed by correct inhibitor.

    Pointing around windows

Firstly remove cement stains with acid from DIY or builders merchant. Puzzled why there is gap between window and brickwork? Always seen frame close to brickwork.

    pressure build up?

Bet you never put inhibitor in your system. You have probably got a buildup of corrosion products, boiler overheating due to scale buildup and excess 'air' in system due to hydrogen generation. Need system cleaner and then correct inhibitor to protect.

    Shower room

Watched 'professionals'. They plastered, fitted shower tray, tiled and then put in small plastic plumbing for electrical shower. However plastic shower tray easily scratched so I rapidly put towel down first and then square of carpet to protect. Elsewhere with rigid pipes they ran them up inside...

    wiring

Live, neutral & earth go into dimmer. Switch live neutral & earth come out to light. You need two 1mm twin and earth cables. At bottom of stairs you have 3 used wires. One live from upstairs and two switched lives returning. As you no longer need it disconnect from both switches and tape up, or...
