    Socket spurs

Power cable is usually 2.5mm which allow 30A in a ring and 20A radially. Now people rely on central heating, power cable rarely gets used to capacity. The IEE regs are specific on it and you can read them in the library. However in practice the main problem is confusing future electricians. If...

    drainage

Do not dispair if you get an uneven edge. I have successfully bonded new concrete to old by using a bonding admixture such as Febond SBR. I paint this to the old concrete face (mixed with cement as instructions ). This prevents a visible hairline crack as concrete sets.

    Conduit and plaster

I use oval egatube which does come in a variety of sizes. However I prefer size that takes two 2.5mm cables as fits directly in metal box and allows for later addition. I usually use angle grinder to cut into brickwork with diamond blade so have no difficulty with constant depth below surface.

    copper pipe corrosion

IEE requirements are for metal piping to be earthed. No problem of water corrosion in hard water area as here in Essex. I agree green corrosion on surface if flux not wiped off. Could person suffering from copper poisoning expand on it as I have never heard of it happening. Is there a...

    leaking conservatory..HELP

The wood moves and glass is rigid but the rubber seals should cope. What has gone wrong with yours? Preferably replace them or more messily use plumbers mait. It worked great on old leaky guttering! Silicon rubber is great, as transparent, but once it loses adhesion, due to movement, a hairline...

    builders from hell

All you media types want is to get cheap copy to humiliate some poor couple publically. Why not run decent programs showing people basic maintenance work so they can avoid the cowboys.

    Roof felting

Bitumin only works for a while. Time to replace with a better quality! Also if flat roof will probably sag in places leading to puddles. I would use levelling compound, before felting, to put a slight slope.

    electrical tester

I use an analogue megger. This battery powered instrument puts out 500V at 1Mohm load and will test both continuity and insulation. Cost probably over £100. Several brands all do the same job. I recently purchased a tiny loop tester from Martindale. It conducts below 30mA so does not trip RCDs...

    Wiring up a light switch

Very puzzled by your wiring! Now live, Neutral and Earth come from consumer unit. This would be a Twin & Earth cable. Usually I put in junction box. From this Live and earth go to switch. Return to junction box from double switch are two switch lives. This would be a 3 core and earth cable...

    drainage

Rather than chip use an angle grinder. Could you cut a drainage channel with grill across drive near garage?

    loft conversion

With the cowboy builders we have today it is not the quoted cost but the misery and cost of correction work required. I would strongly advise an architect or other qualified person to detail exactly what is too be done. You will have to meet building requirements so visit council planning dept...

    Additional Lighting

Difficulty I see is that usually only Live goes to switch. If however you have Neutral as well no problem. You would need to ensure heat from halogens could not be a fire hazard. Cannot you gain access to lighting wiring from floorboards above?
