    new shower...

Well Crafty, about 50% of the posts on here probably set alarms ringing, this may be one of the longest running posts so far, with something like 10 replies that as yet hasnt mentioned Pert Flippin P. You have to understand why some of the people on here take offence at the fact that people...

    Extending radial main

Ban........could it be people ask the questions for reassurance? On the comment you made about ring mains.......Im totally with you, testing radials is so much quicker than rings........and if we were to go the whole hog and have double pole circuit breakers, imagine how easy it would be to...

    Controlling the cable on installation

I think crafty was right with 100. If the guy is selling boxes of 99, after he has sold 99 boxes he has enough to make another box, but until he has sold that box he hasnt made any profit.....therefore 100. I mean forget the fact that he`s selling them for twice what he pay`s for them. Ps...

GEC Nightstor (no it shouldn`t have an "e" on the

The plot thickens, Well it`s still not fixed, and it wasn`t a contactor burnt out. The unit is 3 phase, Red- control circuit, Yellow- element one (with melted thermal link), Blue- element two (with only 10 volts between phase and earth). Appears that the 3 phase mcb at the mains position is...

GEC Nightstor (no it shouldn`t have an "e" on the

BRAINWAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crystal........something within that post made me reread it a few times.. Even though we had an old installers guide, nothing mentioned the fact that if on a single phase supply it only operated one element at a time. I assumed (wrongly) that both elements...

Thanks for the link Crystal, I emailed the guy this morning......Tony, seems quite a helpful chap. Just awaiting a reply from the second email. I must say though, I`m glad I have never had to install one of these things, thought it was bad enough carting a few bricks for a normal night store...

I saw that post as well crafty, to be honest I didn`t realise these things existed...........fortunately they don`t seem to popular. When I swapped the thermal link over to get the daytime boost to work, after only about 5 mins there was a slight plasticky smell. Im still of the idea that it...

Help..... Ok enough drama, have any of you fellow "electrically knowleged people " had any experience with GEC Nightstor Heaters? A friend of my wife`s has one and I have just been round to take a look as apparently it stopped working. On first appearences one of the two thermal links has...

    Tricky radial

Yes Adam, Im sure.........just means the guy thats been training me....for the last 16 years doesn`t know everything. On the other hand I dare say some people will comment that as an approved sparks myself I shouldn`t believe everything I`m told and that I should know the regs book back to...

    Tricky radial

Ok, this post has taught me something........I think. All you guy`s had to learn somewhere right?, but if somebody with say 20 years more experience in the trade told you something........you might believe him?. I have always been told that radials within kitchens are .......er.......frowned...

Why is that then Sammy?, for all we know he`s going to do the work himself and pay the fee (£50-£300) to the labc to get it checked????? But then again.............I doubt it.

    extractor fan in light switch??

Swelec, Breezer.........would you agree it possible that if the fan wiring was across the switch.........the fan would run when the switch is in the off position (getting the neutral through the lamp filament).........then when the switch is in the on position, light works...........but now...

    extractor fan in light switch??

Sorry, I was asking if that was what you had done?, where have you taken the two wires to the fan from? I thought perhaps you had connected them across the two wires at the switch. If you take a look in the reference setion, plenty of very helpful diagrams to explain how to wire it up correctly.

Where have you wired the fan back to? The light switch?

    Mating with Conduit

BJC, How come they are not allowed?...........is it because of earth continuity? If so this wont be a problem as an earth wire is going to be installed.

    Mating with Conduit

Most half decent electrical wholesalers will have them in stock (or if not in stock be able to get hold of them). One thing to watch out for though, are you sure its 20mm conduit and not 3/4?............you can still get knock on couplers for both but wouldnt want you cursing me when the one...
