    What's the low down on mixer flow control and shower pumps?

    So maybe I'm paying for those slack PEX pipes eh ChrisR? :P But anyway these pumps should definitely be able to contend with low flow rates? It doesn't say 'variable' in the specs, is this what variable refers to in the context of shower pumps?

    Wasps in the water??

    It may be that only some taps are affected because only some taps have become blocked. The cold cistern in the attic supplies the hot water cylinder so any debris in the cold tank will be passed into the hot water system also. You need someone to come and: - Close off cold water main...

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    :D Thanks grandad :wink:. PS the copper push fits are currently rock solid and oh-so-easy to use! Love em! Whereas 2 out of five of my compression joints required maintenance (they were weeping as I forgot to put PTFE around the olives).

    What's the low down on mixer flow control and shower pumps?

    Hi all I've just installed a Salamander CT50+ and everything is great, but for one niggle...when I turn down the flow control (Mira Pace EV thermostatic mixer) very low for when I'm shaving in the shower, there's a banging noise from somewhere (which I guess is what they call water hammer)...

    How to fit a Techflange Essex flange for shower pump

    Oh you're referring to the cylinder connection? Not the valve itself? I can't see any leaks at the valve itself...

    How to fit a Techflange Essex flange for shower pump

    :D Thanks all. All opinions are welcome, best way to learn! I didn't get time to adjust the piping today as I had to replace the silicone around the bath (grrr, worst bathroom job ever?). However one coming weekend I'll probably go down the 15mm copper route with elbow bends and supported on the...

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    I bought and used these, thanks they worked perfectly. So Richard C was spot on! Each diamond tipped drill bit was like £30 in the Screwfix catalogue :shock: . Richard C, no prickliness and I wasn't referring to you. Apologies if I came across poorly, I very much appreciate all the help...

    new toilet smelling of drains :( help appreciated

    Did you re-plumb the soil pipe? What's the fall rate? If it's too steep you can get the water travelling over the poo while the poo builds up on the pipe.

    too much pressure and flow from 3bar pump

    = Cavitation in shower pump. = No warranty on shower pump. Sounds good in principle but a bad idea in practice!

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    Haha true. The only justification I can attempt to give, is that I simply can't be bothered. If people really think it's worth my time then I guess I'd better get it done!

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    Yep, we'll see. I can't see that it makes that much difference though. And I have to laugh at all these plumbers coming out of the woodwork criticising plastic, when half of them would have been perfectly happy using 15mm supply from the vent pipe for a a 3 bar pump without a dedicated cold...

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    Where did I mention tungsten carbide? I just said mine were crap, hence I was buying a new drill bit (the best thing for the job). I may or may not re-plumb the plastic, depending on my mood tomorrow. Thanks Mickyg, I'll go and pick them up tomorrow I think.

    How to fit a Techflange Essex flange for shower pump

    This thread is for people Googling 'Techflange' as I did. It describes how to fit an Essex flange style Techflange (click me for example) to a hot water cylinder. I'm very much an amateur DIYer, and a total plumbing novice. This was my first 'big' plumbing job. I hope someone finds it useful...

    too much pressure and flow from 3bar pump

    3 bar for one shower head!! I hope you've got a big hot water cylinder!

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    Thanks, my masonry bits are budget and poor. I'm just going to get the right tool for the job, can't be doing with re-tiling tomorrow. Comments on the plastic please? I'm thinking copper would look better, no doubt, but is it worth it?

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    Here's some detail on what happened guys. I must say I really appreciate all your help. The flange arrived and I fitted the lever valve beforehand, so if I dropped it it wouldn't fall through the cylinder: I drilled the hole, my hands were shaking ;). I read and re-read the instructions...

    22mm female --> 15mm male?

    I have pipe slices, 15mm and 22mm. I have pipe benders that allow for 15mm and 22mm pipe. I should have thought of that.

    22mm female --> 15mm male?

    Thanks all. I used push-fit copper reducers and a short length of pex to reduce from 22mm to 15mm, like this (look at the bottom of the inlet pipes nearest the hot water cylinder): The long PEX from pump to and through plasterboard is another story, but feel free to comment on the...

    too much pressure and flow from 3bar pump

    Forgive the no doubt stupid question, but doesn't your shower mixer have a flow control dial? Can't you just turn it down?

    Drilling two scary holes today - any tips?

    I've done it, utterly terrifying, pics to follow! Quick question: can I use plastic pipe inserts on a compression joint (15mm)? It's so I can run PEX to the shower mixer! Thanks!
