    Wylex Consumer Unit replacement help.

I’m looking at getting estimates to have my Consumer Unit (6 way Wylex unit in a 1960’s house) replaced. The addition of circuits over time has resulted in the box being very crowded. The query I have is that with my lighting circuits being the original (without any earth) and some of the plug...

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

Hi, My chime is a very old Micromark MM8815, dates back to the late 80’s. When I first installed the Nest all worked well except for the chime which struggled to activate the ‘Ding Dong’ mechanism. So I purchased the Screwfix supplied transformer and all worked a treat. Benny.

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

Yes, the only source of power for the Nest unit is that supplied by the existing doorbell transformer. Have just finished the relocation exercise and its now in a cupboard with its own fused supply; all measured outputs remaining the same. Thanks for all your assistance. Regards, Benny.

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

Bernard, you have made my day. I shall give it a go and should problems arise I can always add a new transformer. I am now in the process of relocating the old one. Thank you so much. Regards, Benny.

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

I can easily relocate this old unit where it is visible and will be protected by a fused switch. The transformer is cool to the touch; the problem is this issue ‘Nest Hello needs to be powered by wires delivering 12 - 24 V’ whereas mine measures 14.6 or 11.8v under load. It may work; I could...

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

Measurement coming in at 11.8v. This coupled with the comment from bernardgreen suggests a change is required. Clearly a replacement, placed in a more suitable location, is desirable. My plan is to use one of these...

Will Nest Hello work with my current set-up.

I currently have a wired door bell. The chime is pretty old (Micromark MM8815) as is the transformer that powers it. The thing is, the transformer is somewhere under floorboards and short of moving furniture and lifting carpets I can’t inspect it. I have measured the output at the chime and the...

Help please choosing a bathroom Suit.

I'm very grateful for all your input. It certainly demonstrate the widely exaggerated RRP's at Homebase. Visited a couple of local stores today and pretty much settled on the Vitra for the sanitaryware (S50 range), seen some keen prices at Victorian Plumbing. On the bath front, having seen the P...

Help please choosing a bathroom Suit.

Been looking into this and its all so confusing. The Ideal Standard stuff I say in Homebase is called 'the accent range' however, I can't find any spec for these (especially the bath) on the IS website so I have nothing to compare it with. I take your point on the bath quality, my current one...

Help please choosing a bathroom Suit.

Thank you for such a prompt reply. Ballpark figures in terms of costs; Hand basin - £150, Toilet - £450, 'P' Shaped bath - £450. Incidentally the Homebase stuff came from the link below; http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/searchterm/ideal%20standard%20accent

Help please choosing a bathroom Suit.

I am about to refit my bathroom and need a little help deciding which make of kit to use. I’m getting someone to fit this lot and so far I have gone for a Mira Excel shower, Grohe brassware but it’s the sanitary ware (Bath, Toilet & Hand basin) that I need help. I want fairly decent stuff...

    Yale 6400 Alarm Help

Hi Bernard, I've measured the cable run over the weekend and locating it in my preferred location (the live siren at the front of the property with the dummy at the rear) it works out at eleven meters. By switching them I could reduce the run to four meters. Will it be okay to install it on...

    Yale 6400 Alarm Help

Your input is greatly, appreciated. The AC/DC approach will now be abandoned in favour of the remote battery option. I plan to transfer the batteries supplied to the Maplin housing and solder the "extension" to the original holder. I noticed a power socket on the siren but don't plan on...

    Yale 6400 Alarm Help

Well I've been away from this post for a few weeks as my DHW/CH boiler failed so I have been active over on that form and with lots of assistance I have sorted that issue, so it's back to my Alarm. Last week I bought a Yale Easy Fit Telecom kit in the Homebase sale. I have not fitted it yet but...

Any Views on Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combination boiler

Hi, Just to provide an update and close this off. I've just had the ecoTec 831 fitted. Got the Honeywell CMT927 fitted at the same time. So far very pleased, though we've only used the DHW in anger. Thanks to all for your contributions. Now I can get back to sorting out my Burglar Alarm...

Any Views on Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combination boiler

Incidentally would there be any advantage in moving to the 831 version to improve the DHW performance. From the IDHEE site I have calculated my property requires just under 12kW to meet my heating requirements, I have also established that my current radiator set up should produce 14.7kW...

Any Views on Vaillant ecoTEC Plus combination boiler

My price of £2500 is based on the Vaillant 824 with the Magnaclean filter, system flush and connection to the nearest (3m) 22mm gas supply. Is that excessive?? Benny.
