    MCB Buzzing

Can you get domestic reverse phase dimmers bernardgreen? I assume this is the difference between leading / trailing edge?

    Man to challenge attack sentence.

This was not self defence, and for that reason this man completely over-stepped the mark and deserves to be convicted IMO. Just imagine if home owners had a licence to do what they wanted on the basis they had been robbed (not including self defence) it would be great for people wanting to...

    Heatsink paste

I think you are referring to silver paste mate normal paste which is fine unless seriously over-clocking should not present any problems. For cleaning I use Isopropyl alcohol the stuff practically dissolves and evaporates quickly..

    socket covers a shock hazard

I use socket covers but they are the older style and actually quite hard to remove! I think one point missed it that they make the socket look less apealing as something to mess with in the first place, however if child sees mum or dad inserting the cover then it could look too similar to...

    Blown amplifier

Yes it is likely something else is causing problems but first check the obvious - disconnect the speaker at the back of the amp. You need a multimeter and you want to check transistors (or mono IC?) in the output stage and diodes etc. related to the amp for shorts (meter should read about...

    Repair of Christmas Lights

Give us a picture but tbh as you are asking from a novice POV it might be difficult to make a satisfactory repair.

'unsecured' credit is not really unsecured

Which implies you knew you could effectively walk off with stuff you didn't own. That says a lot about you!

'unsecured' credit is not really unsecured

This is a good thing IMO. Too many think it ok to walk away from debts they have built up no one twisted their arms. Normally because they live beyond their means and have a keep up with the jones' attitude. Some of the crap on MSE.com unbelievable people asking how to 'get off' debts and...

    failed psu

Why should a PSU not be repaired? I realise it isn't necessarily economical (possibly with more expensive units!) but it is no different than a PSU found in a telly or video really, same principles - and any competent a/v tech would NEVER replace a complete circuit board!

    vax upright hoover

While you are at it thoroughly clean the porous dust collector as it will be clogged with old dust - You might notice quite a difference afterwards!

Wow, what sort of battery was that?

    vax upright hoover

I have the same hoover and recently found one of the motor brushes was partially stuck, so only just making contact but obviously resulting in overheating. Removed brush generally cleaned motor and did as poster above. Oh be careful with the motor housing seals they are delicate.

Replacing old steel bath with new one.

Don’t get a shock this Christmas

You could carefully cut the base and put another filament or led inside. BTW they always appear on ebay for not too much money

    another idiot!!!!!!!!

There is a reason these people undercut everyone else - they usually don't get recommended  You obviously cannot see this mate but seriously you were ripped off if main board replaced that was not faulty in the first place this is mickey mouse fault diagnostics stylie.... You have ended...

The Burning Question - Are RCDs safe?

And how exactly could the rcd have been responsible for the 'near fused' wire?

    Replacements Bulbs for Christmas lights

This is obvious but personally I do not like led lights for some reason - I certainly hate the way a few sets flicker at high frequency, I assume PWM driven  There are some filament sets, normally more expensive ones (NOT transformer sets) that look lovely and are currently...
