Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

Looks like I wasn’t going far enough out. I peeled back the insulation and found the damp patch in the pictures. It’s raining really heavily right now and there’s no roof leak so I think it must be seeping in from the gutter area.

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

This is the area, when I first noticed it it was about 15cm by 5cm. I’ll go back up later after work and move some more insulation to see if I’ve missed something.

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

If I lift up the insulation there doesn’t seem to be any damp under there that I can see. The damp patch is towards the exterior wall and I’m pretty sure there’s no insulation where the tank was. There’s like a small wooden platform that I’m assuming the tank was sat on but the patch is under an...

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

Hi, I moved into a new property about 4 months ago, soon afterwards i noticed a small brown mark in the corner of the ceiling but thought nothing of it, recently I noticed that the patch has grown considerably and is damp to the touch. It seems to have become more severe since we had our boiler...

    Toilet does not fully flush

Hi, I have just moved into a house with a toilet that has a dual flush valve, the type that is screwed into the cistern lid with a plunger on the bottom. It seems to sit too low on the cistern and when I push it it only half flushes the toilet. If I remove it and then push the top of the flush...

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

The tap is fed from the mains and it’s about 15 l/min but the tap has an aerator on it so presumably it would be a bit more? I’m just an average diyer so don’t think I can measure the pressure.

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

One other thing that we are doing is replacing the boiler as it's really old and not very effective. I was thinking of switching to a combination boiler, am I right in thinking that if I do it will negate the need for the hot water tank in the airing cupboard and cold water tank in the loft? If...

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

Even more pathetic than I’d imagined tbh. That info is great though thanks I’ll have a look around.

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

So I just measured the amount of water I get from the shower and the sink in the ensuite and it is as follows: Shower hot - 1.5l/min Shower cold - 4 l/min Sink hot - 4 l/min Sink cold - 8.5 l/min So because its about double the amount of water delivered to the shower compared to...

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

Sorry for the late reply, the previous owner has been in touch and said that the shower is gravity fed and it has always been like this as that’s how he preferred it. Not sure I believe it as it’s so weak. The taps in the sink are stronger as are the taps in the main bathroom bath and sink...

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

Hi all, I have just moved into a new house which has this shower mixer: When I turn it on water doesn't get much more than a dribble, I have removed the shower head to see if it is clogged but the flow remains the same. I have tried contacting the previous owner to ask if there is a pump...

    Dripping noise in toilet cistern

No, not on a meter so I suppose it will have to be the mains. Thanks for the help.

    Dripping noise in toilet cistern

Thanks both for the replies. It turns out that I was looking in the wrong place, I couldn't turn off the water because the back of the unit is enclosed so I put toilet paper around the inside as just pumps suggested. I was checking for leaks at the back of the bowl but there is a small trickle...

    Dripping noise in toilet cistern

I have a dual flush toilet with a constant dripping noise coming from the cistern. I have looked in the cistern and can't see any drip, the water in there is undisturbed and there is no drip into the bowl itself but the sound is constant about 2 drips every second. I have looked through previous...

Fixing a worktop to a chest of drawers

Hi, I am attempting to create an island type chest of drawers in a bedroom. I've got 2 bog standard chest of drawers and fixed them back to back so that now I've got basically what I'm looking for but with a join line down the middle. I'm thinking about ordering some kitchen worktop or wall...

    Euro Mini Alarm Errors

I have recently bought a house with a Castle Euro Mini alarm fitted. When I go to set the alarm I get a message flash up saying 'Set alarm with fault? Landing 06, kitchen 04'. I have looked through all of the manuals and websites but it seems as though there is not a single thing alluding to...

Wiring in place but no power

John, You're right of course I'm just clutching at straws I suppose. I'm not actually at the property at the minute but will take some photos and upload them tomorrow when I go over. One more idea, would it be completely stupid to think that the power is coming from another switch which needs...

Wiring in place but no power

I'm no expert John so I don't know how many different types of FCU there are but if it's just a sort of switch with an on/off light or a fuse holder then there's not one of those anywhere in the house that I can see. As for the office use I thought that as the sockets are working he may have...
