    potterton netaheat busted

Hi there, Personally, I'd change it. Its an old boiler and has had a good innings and parts are difficult to get hold of. Good luck

    No water in system!

I think bster is probably right but I doubt you'd be able to blow it out. More likely it will have to be cut out & replaced. Although, sometimes, its just a blockage at the outlet of the cistern so I'd give that a poke first if I were you garethgas

The life of a combi boiler?

I'm staggered by the acceptance of 10, 12 or 15 yrs as a life span of a 'modern' combi. Why should this be? If any salesman admitted this to me....I'd laugh in his face...I mean...they ain't cheap are they? Any comments welcome Garethgas

Searching for a new gas meter box...

Hi Tony, Just noticed your comment about guttering...its because guttering is plastic & these boxes are GRP ....osmosis city. They've been out for years & STILL no one's thought to sort it out. Garethgas

Searching for a new gas meter box...

Jet washing will do little to help unfortunately. What these boxes suffer from is osmosis. Curable on a boat yes but not on such a flimsy piece of plastic ( GRP actually) Get in touch with Transco, pay them & collect the outer box yourself is the only practical way. Hope this helps Garethgas

Gas cooker point seal done right?

Bambi You obviously know nothing about me so stop behaving like a child with your personal insults. I ALWAYS test where I consider it appropriate. My point is simply that at my last 3 CNN1's this was specifically & thoroughly covered for obvious reasons (the servicing of a boiler being the...

Gas cooker point seal done right?

My two peneth worth... Whisl I fully understand the posts so far, its not necessary to put a drop test on when you screw in a 1/2" plug. Soapy water (ldf) will do fine.

Technical question (my lecturer couldn't answer it!)

Been following this thread with great interest. I have nothiing to contribute in a technical way but what a refreshing change to see a civilised discussion without the 'I know more than you' brigade. Been a gas engineer, lecturer (resent those comments lol) and now self employed ( 5 yrs) and I...

Alpha 240E Not Lighting After Gas Meter Change

You say that "nothing fires-up or even makes a sound." Does the boiler attempt ignition at all? If the engineer has purged at the meter (not really the done thing but it works) then the amount of air that would enter the pipe to the boiler will be negligible. Garethgas

    MYSON APOLLO

Am I missing something? How can the pilot stay lit if the OP is using an universal th'coulple? If this is the case then the o/h stat will have been by-passed and unless bridged out it can't work surely? Also, bridging the stat out is only a test to confirm its operation or otherwise...NOT a...

baxi bermuda back boiler gas valve

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but..... The boiler you have is very very old and should be changed. The silver 'stevens' valve you talk about will be pretty much impossible to get hold of I'd have thought. Same with the resistor.

I doubt very much if the threads will be parallel. But would agree with either PTFE tape or even hemp. Garethgas

Fitting diverter in Vaillant Turbomax 282E

Personally, I'd change the pump seals every time, they're notorious for leaking. If you have no choice (ie not available at the time) then I'd certainly go along with the clean/greasing method. As an aside, does anyone know why such seals are so perishable? garethgas

No hot water from Worcester combi boiler

I agree with the above. However, although the diaphragm is the most likely culprit and are replacable, I've found it more expensive but easier and a better repair to change the whole assembly. garethgas

    No Hot Water. ????

I've just had a look at your pics & unless my eyes deceive me, the pilot light looks as if its choked. not related to the fault yu describe but you'll def need a CORGI fella in to sort that ASAP. The HW problem should be sorted by him quite easily on the same visit. Prob not quite what you...

Quote from BG for new boiler.Don't know if it's justifiable!

Depending on the Kw rating of the boiler, why not try re running the supply pipe in 28mm for about half the run, then 22mm for the remainder? This will do two things: a) Provide you with enough gas to the appliance and most probably cure your water problem b) If, in the future you decide to...
