    Garden help

Great thanks again. When you say the DPC on the leg, do you mean just a small area enough to cover the bottom of the leg? Also, the sliding doors at the back of my house go in by about 10cm, so they're not flush with the outside wall if you see what I mean. So I'm wondering whether I need to fit...

    Garden help

Thanks for the suggestion, I've only got about 25cm in height to play with so I'm guessing they might not fit. Just to make it clear for me, as it needs to sit on flagstones, could you let me know in order what I should be putting down i.e. weed membrane, dpc tape or treatment, frame, decking...

Have you done many decks before? I'm wondering if I really need to concrete posts in or sit the farm on top of the flags?

    Garden help

Great stuff thanks. I don't suppose if you or anyone else reading has any experience with composite decking? We wanted to stain ours opaque grey rather than traditional wood colour when it's finished but I was checking out the grey composite which apparently doesn't need much aftercare (although...

    Garden help

I'll try and work it so to avoid having legs near the tree. When you say damp proof, I knew I'd need something but is this a sheet, something you paint on or something you stick on from a roll? Ta

    Garden help

Hi – The flags have been planted around the tree but not completely all around. The final row of flags have one or two missing where the tree sits. The roots have quite obviously moved the flags around the tree as they're not flat. The rest of the flags are pretty uneven too though not too bad...

    Garden help

Thanks. I'm fairly confident about how to build it, my only concern is the movement bit you just mentioned. If the tree's matured I can't imagine it's going to move the flags too much any more?

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean just put a frame on top of the flagstones without adding any posts in the ground?

    Garden help

Hi all – I need some help working out what to do with part of my garden. At the back of my house I've some large sliding glass doors which lead out to flagstones about 7m wide by 4m deep. Past that there's a grass lawn with a path of the same flagstones down one side. The step down to the...

    Fixing a light fitting

The rose is made of metal and the has a braided cable coming from it. As the shade is metal, it's held up by a chain which as you say is slightly shorter so there's no strain on the wiring. Unfortunately the threads on the shade were a bit loose and that's put strain on the wiring which has...

    Fixing a light fitting

Hi – I've got a couple of industrial shades with fittings in my kitchen. Whilst trying to replace one of the bulbs which was a bit stuck, the whole thing fell off leaving 2 bare wires exposed. I think the live cable had become worn and snapped. After taking the fitting apart ready to put it...
