    Location of gas boiler flue

Dan - thanks for the advice. The installation is at my son's house so I will ask him to check the manual. Tony/Agile - thanks for your input. As I said to Dan above, the installation is at my son's house. I know he has a Vaillant combi boiler but I couldn't tell you what the model number is.

    Location of gas boiler flue

Sorry should have included this in my post. The flue pipe can be seen near the top centre of the photo.

    Location of gas boiler flue

We intend to build a lean-to conservatory at the rear of our semi-detached house. The neighbour's house has a small extension already so our conservatory will be alongside it. There will be a gap of about 600mm between the two structures. Now currently the flue from our gas combi boiler is about...

    Best Value White Emulsion?

I always use Johnstone's Covaplus. Not the cheapest but probably best value in terms of excellent covering power and non-yellowing properties. Browse the Internet - lots of on-line suppliers.

Lean to extension over outside wall... weep holes inside?!

I only ask because my son had EPS bead insulation put in the cavity walls of his house and he has similar weep holes above the lintels. He apparently has never seen water coming out of them prior to the insulation. Re cladding. I wondered if the OP could use this above the extension and thereby...

Lean to extension over outside wall... weep holes inside?!

What if the cavity has been retro-filled with EPS beads/adhesive coated? What if the house wall above extension is PVC cladded so no water can get at the wall?

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

I guess I could go really Old School, dig a trench, throw in some river gravel and go from there. It worked for Salisbury cathedral. 21st century BCO's would have a fit.

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

Not in one mix I couldn't obviously but I was concerned about the time gap between the first mix and the last. Any particular reason why you wouldn't bar the entire foundation?

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

Woody - no, concreting per se is not the issue, but rather the amount of concrete required. A 200mm deep x 300 or 400 wide strip foundation is ok. BTW I didn't know that I could build directly off the ground - being an amateur I think I would prefer a nice solid, flat concrete base to start...

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

Jeds - thanks for your input. When you say "600 is no depth", this implies that this is way too shallow but wouldn't a 200 thick strip plus two courses of blocks come to only about 650 anyway? I agree about barrowing blocks - a lot easier certainly and I won't have a readymix lorry driver...

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

Cjard - thanks for your input. No, I wouldn't be able to get a mini dumper truck in. These trench blocks look to be the answer. I can't believe that a lightweight aerated concrete block can support a two storey building yet that is what is claimed! I will be the bricklayer in this case so I will...

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

Woody -thanks for your response. Since I started this thread I see there is one early today which discusses the use of foundation blocks. Hadn't considered these - they would greatly simplify the process. Lightweight and eliminate need for double skin blockwork and concrete infill below DPC...

Jeds - thanks for your response. I am aiming for 600mm and 400mm wide.

Trench vs strip foundation for conservatory

I have to make a choice regarding foundations for a conservatory. If I go with a trench foundation I will need 2 cu.m. readymix. Access is very poor, so either a wheelbarrow job (with a heck of a lot of trips) or a pump (£££££’s). If I go with a strip foundation I would need only 0.7 cu.m. –...

    retaining wall

I built a retaining wall (as a DIY-er), 80 ft long, 3 ft high and 9 in thick using about 600 18 x 9 x 4 inch concrete blocks. Total cost was less than £1000 (this includes concrete footings and mortar).

Is it ok to have a second bend in a vent pipe?

Muggles - thank you for your reply. OK, so I have to introduce a horizontal run of pipework into the system. Would the following work (I know it looks a bit convoluted but I am constrained by the existing layout)? Thanks. Gofer

Is it ok to have a second bend in a vent pipe?

The only place I can relocate a vent pipe (leading to the F&E tank) is off a vertical section of 28 mm pipe at the rear of my wood pellet boiler just before the pump in the flow. To do this means inserting a T followed by a swept bend. This will be the only bend in the pipe apart from the one at...

Correct layout of pipework to/from F&E tank

Lee C - thanks for your response. I didn't think it was a good idea to combine the feed & vent in my case but to be fair to Pete he did not know that I had a pellet boiler when he posted. If I went for the vertical arrangement, how would I invert the cold feed? Would it be a matter of taking the...
