    Making dumb extractor fans smart

I don't know yet as I haven't bought one yet. But considering the outbuilding suffered condensation to rust my tools in the past, would be crazy not to install whatever measures possible to reduce the risk given they'll be hundreds of £ of equipment in there. Of course tumble dryers don't...

How accurate do you find the temp and humidity sensors?

    Unblocking SWA conduit

SWA doesn't need a conduit correct, but I laid the conduit when the patio was being put in place knowing I'd need to run a SWA through it to power the outbuilding in the garden. Also useful if I ever needed to replace the cable as I won't be able to lift a porcelain patio - shame my patio guys...

    Making dumb extractor fans smart

Thanks. Which wifi switch are you using with the Shelly H&T? Until I get my head around HA, the Sonoff or Shelly should be sufficient to do the same job via the app - i.e turn the fan on based on humidity levels and also set programmes based on time?

    Making dumb extractor fans smart

I have the same question so this thread is timely. Except I need a normal Manrose extractor fan in an outbuilding utility room to come on with an increase in humidity (eg when tumble dryer is on). However Im completely new to home automation so a few qs: - Would I need both a Sonoff Mini and...

    Unblocking SWA conduit

Its just an armoured CAT6e cable that I wanted to push through. Will fishing cable find its own hole to go through (if there is one)? And something like this will do?

    Unblocking SWA conduit

Sorry I meant 150cm length! Its about an inch diameter. Unfortunately isn't straight as it goes under one part of the patio and comes up the other. Been thinking about the Bostik stuff. Just wasn't sure if it would damage the SWA. I guess if the cable is covered then there shouldn't be...

    Unblocking SWA conduit

Does anyone have any ideas about unblocking a conduit thats blocked with some concrete? I have a 150cm twin-walled PVC conduit under porcelain slabs with a SWA cable running through it that has been clogged up with concrete near one end when the patio was being laid. I could do with passing...

Are you allowed to have an appliance plugged into a socket in another room permanently? Ie. Alexa in bathroom, socket in loft?

Which Alexa model is it? The echo dot has a fabric covering which will get moist from the steam of a shower regardless of cold surface condensation. Wouldn't be surprised if that grows mould on it after some time.

    Extractor fan and ventilation queries

Can't the fan slot into one of the ends if it's a 4" circle? Flexible dryer hose on the other side. Exit into wall hall and voila! Would just need to modify the Y-splitter by adding a bit of plastic (the red line). Will just go with a condensor, but patent my idea above :giggle:

    Extractor fan and ventilation queries

I didn't understand your first point, but I meant keeping the hole for the dryer vent, and using something like an airbrick for cross ventilation (high up on one side and low down on the opposite wall). Is that method of ventilation ineffecient? If I connected one of these Y-splitter ducts...

    Extractor fan and ventilation queries

Hi all, Have put this here rather than electrics as also looking for general advice on ventilation and reducing condensation, etc. Currently converting a block outbuilding into a utility room to house washer/tumble dryer/chest freezer/garden sink with only cold tap. The shed in its current...

    New shed condensation

No I didn't want to risk any leaks doing a DIY job with the blow-torch (and the previous one was felt which failed prematurely but I suspect the roofer was a cowboy). Used a single piece of EPDM roofing this time. No problems with the cold snap thus far.

    New shed condensation

Just to mention my experience which may help you. Had my brick shed roof replaced during lockdown around the same time I got uPVC door and window installed. The inside of the roof turned into a black mouldy mess within a matter of months! I can only imagine the installation of uPVC...

Insulating internal solid brick walls of shed

I'm no expert, but I would have thought you should use 75mm PIR within the studs, use the money saved to buy a further 25mm to place across the front of the studs to mitigate cold bridging and cover the whole thing with a vapour control layer to minimise the chance of moisture getting to the...
