My paint is bubbling up, please help

There are many things that will cause this. The thing to understand is that emulsion is water based and so are many other things that are put on your walls. The blisters can be as a result of wallpaper paste in an old layer becoming wet again. It can also be a layer on distemper becoming wet and...

Covering a capped gas pipe after having gas fire remived

There is no need to do anything more than just fill and make good the wall. However with pics being so simple to take and print. I would now put a tape measure across from a side wall and up from the floor to provide a reference for it’s location in the future. Print it off and keep safe it may...

    Fixing resilient bars to joists

Great. I’ve come across many people in the past doing things cos it seemed like a good idea. Now to answer your question when we fix this stuff we use a 5x50 screw but use a penny washer to increase the effectiveness when double boarding. To help with sound you could also fill the floor void...

    Tired looking blue altro flooring

Hi as far as I’m aware there is no option to alter or revive the colour. However is it actually discoloured as altro made and still make some pretty poorly shaded colours?? Now to your question you cannot over lay a new floor. However lifting the old one is normally quite easy. You can use a...

Skimming over old flaky painted ceiling?

With out a doubt I would just pva and over skim that. I would make up the pva as a 30/70 mix water/pva this would allow some take up of the mix in to the old surface. Then skim as normal. I hope this helps. Fred.

    Fixing into concrete block

That is exactly what I would use without question. Drill a clearance hole in the timber first as this fixing doesn't like to pull things up and will easily strip its grip on the block. I would put a damp proof membrane between the wood and the block as this will help keep the timber dry. Fred.

Making a Builder Standpipe...drain cock help

the insulation we use is the gray foam one you can get it 35mm thick from a plumbing merchant. We tape this at every joint to prevent any gaps. This insulation dose not hold the water like to one the previous post has suggested. As for the tap normally we just have it mounted on a post as they...

    low pitch extension roof

There is little extra cost with regards the flat roof section. You will need a structural calculation for the steel. The flat roof joists and the pinched roof rafters both pocket in the the steel. You will need to strap some of the joists to some of the rafters to prevent them from separating...

    low pitch extension roof

The things you have to be aware of is the fact that velux windows have a minimum pitch of 15 deg. And you have very limited tile options lower than that as well. The simple answer is to have a flat roof section between the main house and the pinched roof that faces the garden. This is simple to...

Remove a purlin in a loft?

Hi Dave it looks from your pic as if there is a post from under the hip board on the right down to a ? Wall. If that’s the same on both sides then the purlin dose nothing. Very often we leave them on cos it’s easier than trying to get them out. They are often not needed after this type of...

    Sectional garage roof help

The shot answer is yes. But yes a but. You will need to form a new timber roof structure on the garage to carry the new slate. I would think it would just be simpler to go and buy new cement sheet roofing that is a direct replacement for what you have already. Look for a trade roofing supplier...

    foam inside the window frame

Not entirely stupid but yes a waste of time. The box sections are designed to help with the heat loss as part of there rating they are also all sealed so the air can’t move therefore creating a heat stopping section. If you fill them you will effectively break that seel. Your other risk is you...

Removing platform that held water tanks

As you have said not the trusses. But yes you can remove the platform as this typically dose not make up part of the roof structure. Just be careful not to get to ruff with the trusses as you get it to come apart. Fred.
