    Extractor in bathroom

Breezer mine is connected to a 3amp fused FCU which is fed from the rose. It is a pull cord type with no switched live or timer. I didn't think I needed a seperate isolation switch? p.s. sorry to steal post.

    fused connection units

Just to add my two pence worth if it's worth anything at all. My extractor fan in the bathroom has a pull cord switch on it. It isn't a timed version nor does it have a switched live, you just turn it on and off as you need. It is connected to an FCU protected by a 3amp fuse which is fed from...

    Wiring a Cooker point

I have a fairly oldish cooker (Creda topline) but I don't know what rating it is. There's no indication and I don't have the instruction manual. I never purchased or installed it. It is protected by a 30amp cartridge fuse on an old fuse board. It's worked all these years without any incident...

    Cable size for kitchen ring?

I am competent enough to undertake the work as I've rewired the rest of the house fine. I just wasn't sure wether I would need 2.5mm or 4.0mm cable in the kitchen. If I could find out what is the standard used by qualified electricians then I would be better informed. If the kettle and...

    Cable size for kitchen ring?

I'm rewiring the kitchen next week and am thinking that 2.5mm cable is too small. Appliances running will be, although maybe not all at the same time: Kettle - 3000w toaster - 1000w fridge / freezer - don't know but I suppose the average. freezer - don't know but I suppose the average...

    MCB trips when bulb blows.

If a bulb blows when I turn on a light the MCB trips. Why is this? Is it because of the speed in which the bulb blows? Or a surge?

Why does my light still blinks after I switch it off?

    You're probably right. :D

Why does my light still blinks after I switch it off?

Well I turned off the mcb to wire up another socket and when I was working on it the rcd tripped. I guessed it was probably a small amount of current from my body going through the neutral wire that caused it to trip. There is perhaps enough current through our bodies to cause the flickering...

    1 switch 2 lights

I think you're a bit confuzzled mate. It is chamellooennmomenoam who has the one on, one off problem. Both of my lights are working from the same switch cable because I have wired the second rose to the lamp holder flex terminals on the original rose. It works fine. :D

    1 switch 2 lights

    1 switch 2 lights

This is what I did. I wired cable to the two terminals that hold the lamp flex (red to the live brown, black the the neutral blue) and took it to a second ceiling rose and wired it to the usual live and neutral blocks on the new rose. Is what I done correct?

    Blown Circuit

Why did the outlet spark when you were working on it? I am going to assume that you did actually turn off the supply to the outlet before you started work on it, right?

    Shower Cable Size

    How to become qualified?

Thanks for your replies guys. They are all helpful. What I am saying is that I don't necessarily want to, say, make a career out of electrical work, but to the point where I can do an installation and be qualified enough to test and pass it. Such as in Part P terms. When you by an appliance...

    How to become qualified?

I want to become a qualified electrician. I understand that when this Part-P thing comes in diyers won't be able to do their own electrical work. But I want to become qualified anyway. 1.)What's the best way to do it? 2.)What qualifications do you need? 3.)Anything I should know? I'm...

The cable colours are changing - STOCK UP!

I'm not a qualified electrician so I can't really say what is stupid and what is not so I apologize about that. What I mean is that to me red and black make the most sense. I think that it's the flex that should change to red and black and not cable to blue and brown. But that's just my opinion. :)
