    RCD keeps tripping off

The CU says.. Volex on the front and having done a quick google looks a lot (if not exactly) like this one.. the RCD is at the right hand end. http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/lrgimg_popup.jsp;jsessionid=MMWX5IGJZLAJSCSTHZPCFFA?productId=82204&imageNo=null&ts=71158 although I,m sure it...

    RCD keeps tripping off

thanks guy's.. I may have to call in a pro in the end but was hoping to try a bit of DIY diagnosis first. The TV switch is on a much older circuit (20yrs) than the Toaster one which was part of an extention that went on 6 -7 years ago and has it's own seperate connection to the consumer unit...

    RCD keeps tripping off

A few months ago we found each time we turned off the socket that feeds our TV at the wall the RCD in the consumer unit tripped off. This was the big one at the end not the individual switch that is on each circuit. I assumed a problem with the socket and was going to replace it, but in the...

Boiler won't run properly. No hot water. Oil Burner

Exellent decription of your system (except for the gravity hot water bit as wallstars only have two pipes and you have a diverter valve so it is clearly pumped.... but now I'm just being pedantic).... Not so sure what the original problem was except the boiler was turned off (why did you notice...

    Riello oil fired burner tuning

Dan Getting back on topic... if the thought of paying an engineer £60 was financially off putting then i'm afraid there are no gas analysers on the market you could afford. They cost hundreds of pounds. I've even seen them go second hand on ebay for over £200. Then of course you need to...

    Riello oil fired burner tuning

With a fault like you had any decent engineer would have fixed it in one visit and trust me there are plenty of good engineers in Norfolk (myself included) In fact youre more likely to get ripped off in a big City where nobody knows each other... in the sticks word of mouth works very well so...

    Riello oil fired burner tuning

My Dad taught me years ago to shut the air down until the flame starts to become orange (at that point it won't have enough air) than slowly open up the air until the flame becomes a whiteish yellow colour with no orage flecks on the flame tips....and you will be in the ballpark. He's been...

    Heatslave 15/19 losing pressure

I have a customer with a Heatslave 15/19 that has just started to lose pressure rapidly...but intermitently. Several months ago it beagn to lose pressure and I found the Diaphram was split on the vessel so I replaced it and all was well until about two weeks ago. Now the customer is losing...

    Oil Boiler 'Lock Out' Light

You have been very lucky so far .... Yes anyone can vacuum out a boiler there is actually a bit more to it than just that. As oilman said you have wasted a lot of nozzles and actually by fitting a nozzle and not checking the combustion you can cause more harm than good.At the very least...

    Oil boiler supply pipe

If you want to fit it yourself thats up to you and I don't mind helping... it sounds like health and safety and control of pollution isn't really much of a concern where you are so why not... As you're fitting an oil boiler a CORGI registered engineer would not be required even in the UK...

    DHW Cylinder Thermostatic Valve ????

No I'm a bit further south than that... almost into Suffolk... but I think it's standard training for all branches.... I'm not going to mention where I am incase they read this forum and blacklist me !

    DHW Cylinder Thermostatic Valve ????

It took them two weeks to get me a stelrad radiator, God only knows how long something like this would take...... Mind you they probably make me wait deliberately because I keep telling them I can buy stuff cheaper from screwfix than I can from my TRADE account ...... and if there's more than...

    DHW Cylinder Thermostatic Valve ????

Any ideas on a part/model number I've searched all over and can't find it. I've been through the search on Plumb Center (so called because it's run by plums I think) and nothing comes up...been to draytons website and can't find anything even tried googling "Drayton 28mm inline thermostatic...

    DHW Cylinder Thermostatic Valve ????

Thanks guy's... the top does look exactly like the TRV 4 and it is inline but on 28mm... I gather from what your saying the pin should move exactly the same way as a rad valve (which is what I thought but just wanted to check). I got about 2 to 3 mm movement upwards on the pin if I pull it...

    DHW Cylinder Thermostatic Valve ????

I feel a bit of a dummy for asking but in 12 years servicing heating systems I've never come accross one of these (with a problem) I have a customer who has a Thermostatic valve fitted to the flow of his gravity hot water system... He's only getting luke warm water and I found there is...

Smell of Kerosene around oil boiler

I agree with Terry...most likely cause will be a fuel leak somewhere. It only needs to be a TINY amount to cause a nasty smell...especially when the boiler heats up and evaporates it a bit. You can sometimes get a nasty kerosine smell from the flue but only usually if the boiler is not set...

    Oil boiler supply pipe

I don't know many (any) boilers where you connect the copper oil line directly to the boiler, this is usually done by flexible fuel pipe which helps the Engineer to remove the burner for servicing...10mm is the most common size pipe found to connect the tank up to the boiler where it is...

    Worcester Combi Pressure Drop

I agree with Geoff... There is a diaphram in the expansion vessel that has air on one side so that there is room for the water to expand into when the system heats up (hence the name).... If the diaphram in faulty (or if the air pressure is too low) there is no room for this expansion so the...
