which is good make for undersink water filter?

16 years since this was updated. I thought I'd ask in the same thread though rather than creating a new. So does anyone have any good/bad experiences with RO filters in the 2020s? Any makes and what sort of costs to replace the filters?

    Rain downpipe causing internal flooding

Thanks a lot Hugh - it was worth waiting for a high quality answer. Since my last post, I spent part of yesterday alternatively jetting and then sucking up the waste with an old but quite powerful wetndry vac. Well, I fairly quickly got to the point that water would drain at a moderate speed...

    Rain downpipe causing internal flooding

So got the drain attachment and it does absolutely blast jets of water out of it. In 2 minutes its cleared enough to not be totally blocked but still think don't think its full flow. A lot of silt and yet the soil here is clay. Pretty sure its a trap as water always stands at the bottom but...

    Rain downpipe causing internal flooding

Hello All For years now, whenever it rains we've had some flooding appear. Its taken me a long time to get around to looking at it because the internal area is really more like garage quality. Its a passage with a rough concrete floor and brick sides (unclad). There is a shared sewer about 6ft...

    Rain downpipe causing internal flooding

The down pipe is private. The sewer is adopted by Thames Water. 50 years ago they would both have been private.

    Rain downpipe causing internal flooding

    Asked again for obvious reasons.

    Shed base too big

Just measured it and its actually 90 or 100mm so still pretty small.

    Shed base too big

Wasn't sure whether to put this into "DIY disasters" . Basically I've built my shed base about 70mm away from the boundary. Now the boundary is only about 2M long because it is to an electricity substation. As those far more experienced that I will know, that is a problem as the roof overhang...

    Shed cladding

Could I fit the membrane to the outside of the studs and then cladding direct on to the studs? Maybe it depends on what cladding I go for but featherboard seems cheapest....

    Shed cladding

Building a largish shed (5M x 3M) and wondering if I need thin OSB or ply all around the external frame ? i.e. 4x2 framing uprights, then 9mm or 12mm OSB then membrane then cladding. Or can I do without the OSB ? Are there pluses/minuses apart from cost?

    Low gas pressure?

Had the service and the engineer said the working pressure is too low. When running at maximum, the pressure at the boiler is 17.5mbar. Pressure at the meter is 17.75mbar. Standing pressure is 23.5 at meter and 23 at the boiler. So I fished out the manual for the boiler and it says both...

    32mm standpipe trap ?

    Superb - I'll give that a go thanks !

    32mm standpipe trap ?

No! The threads fit but it won't fit and push down over the spigot. Compared to the join in the middle of the trap, the plastic is thicker so the internal diameter is slightly too small to pusher over and meet the o ring. At this point I'm resigned to throwing away this trap. Is the solution...

    32mm standpipe trap ?

haha - I'm beginning to think I don't either I wanted and still want a length of 32mm pipe going into a trap at the bottom and then out the wall in 32mm. If I have to make that a 40mm washing machine pipe and trap then reduce down I could but not ideal

    32mm standpipe trap ?

Thanks but clearly that won't screw into the waste end of any trap.

    32mm standpipe trap ?

Hello All I want a standpipe with trap at the bottom for the condensate to enter. So I (stupidly?) bought a mcalpine 32mm P trap before realising I didn't know if there exist adapters to connect 32mm pipe onto the waste side of the trap. So far I've bought this which of course doesn't fit...

    Nicked a gas pipe

I don't speak from professional expertise but you're definitely not wrong. Get a U-guage and see how hard it is to blow 20Mb. Then rig up some water pipe with 3 bar pressure and try and blow against that ! If you want some real pressure fun, install an air sourced heat pump (aka aircon) and...

    Nicked a gas pipe

Clean (wirewool/whatever) and then flux just around the hole then apply the patch? Not sure - normally soldered joints in fittings are mechanically fixed inside the barrel of the fitting (the solder floods the gap inbetween). Does layering a bit of solder hold water (or gas) so to speak ? If...

    Yet another condensate question

Thanks - a good mini-guide right there. Would you make the hole in the wall large enough for both 32mm pipe _and_ 13mm or 19mm insulation? That'd be quite a big hole just to accomodate a few drips ?

    Yet another condensate question

Interesting thanks. Presumably your boiler doesn't have a built in trap with at least 75mm depth then because according to the Water Regs doc I posted, it says you don't need a trap in that case. Then again if there is no trap external to the boiler, wouldn't you get smells or at least drafts...
