    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Oh for sure. I've changed the diff, gearbox and engine oil. All filters have been changed. It's also had a coolant change. I've also replaced the shocks, springs, top mounts, track rod ends, thermostats, glow plugs, glow plug module, upgraded the brakes etc but that's a post for another forum.

I was always going to get it serviced. I removed the diff on my car just so I could change the oil thoroughly. Good old BMW and their lack of drain plugs.

I spend the money where and when I need to. You should see how anal I am with my cars. I was a bit ignorant to the servicing aspect of boilers but I've learnt my lesson now and it will be getting its annual service from now on.

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Well this is what they always refer to so that's why I read it very carefully. You guys crack me up. If I say black you say white and if I say white you say black  Even if they refuse to sort it It's only cost me £6 so no great loss really (y)

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

I know it's bad and I'm the first to admit that. I guess because it was just sat there quite happily working away I just forgot about it. I will keep on top of it now though. Like I said I read the small print very carefully. Maybe I'll leave it a couple of months and say I only noticed it...

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Hopefully they will. I moved in in Sep 2011 and it hasn't been done since at least then so hopefully they don't refuse to change it otherwise I will kick off. Who would you recommend instead? All the other big players are more expensive but around the same price. I read the small print very...

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

If I pay for a service outright it's going to cost me at £70-£80 straight out of my pocket. If I go with the £5 policy that only costs £60 for the year and I won't even notice £5 a month going out of my bank account plus they'll fix the boiler for me if it goes wrong which I'm sure will make...

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Actually they do a £5 a month policy which includes only boiler care and a service. I don't need central heating cover. I can look after that myself. I'll go with Homeserve then. I've just taken out a special first year offer for £6 for the whole year on water pipe and drainage cover with...

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

I'm only joking. I'll get it done properly. I'm just looking at service plans. Homeserve have a good introductory policy going for £7.50 a month which includes boiler and central heating cover plus a service in the first year. Do you guys charge on top of the service for the burner seal...

Do you think it would be OK to buy the burner seal from eBay?

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

Unfortunately I didn't choose this boiler. It was already in the house when I moved in. To be fair it's been a good work horse so far. This is the first problem I've had with it and the water in the system was really black and nasty the first time I drained it.

I know there's a lot more to the gas side. That's why I will be getting it serviced. I've read up on the burner seal. I noticed my boiler does have the nyloc nuts on it. I will ensure the RGI replaces the seal when the boiler is serviced.

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

I understand that if something fails within the boiler due to poor maintenance then that could cause the seal to leak. What I was trying to say is that if everything is working perfectly fine within the boiler then I can't see how a lack of maintenance could cause the seal to break down or be...

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

I understand gas related items need to be replaced which I definitely wouldn't do myself. Is there actually any maintenance carried out on the seal itself though? It's not a serviceable part is it? Surely you just check for leaks and then replace it if you detect a leak?

    Vaillant diverter valve Improved design?

I was just wondering how many you'd seen leak as you obviously work on them day in, day out. How does missing a service cause the front cover to leak? Surely the service disturbs the seal making it more likely to leak upon re installation?
