ah, so you mean wrapping the steel plate with some insulation? even though it will be mortared and blockwork on it on the outer leaf..?

OK, so you wouldn't bother insulating within the steel box...? just the cavity and then plasterboard over on the internal...?

is a fair point... it depends if the BC officer looks at the SE spec and compares it to the built padstone spec... I've seen so many examples of BC inconsistency - from vague OKs, to accepting Pics, to absolutely not accepting a micron of deviation from any rule, reg, drawing etc

I think you have completely missed the point and misunderstood the actual situation. I am doing this BECAUSE the builder (who hasn't fled!) is now AFTER quote saying things will cost more due to more cutting to suit position of openings. Hence me asking for Advice as to most efficient layout.
