Is a Belle Mixer worthwhile over a cheaper brand for DIY projects?

If the drum is removable easy like the belle, I may go for the SF one next time if and when the belle eventually kicks the bucket. It’s a big bonus if you want to get it in the car on your own.

Is a Belle Mixer worthwhile over a cheaper brand for DIY projects?

I’ve got a belle which I bought 2nd hand in 2011, I’ve used it to build a couple of extensions and a load of other stuff, it’s never missed a beat. Although I’m embarrassed to admit I only found out recently you can give the drum a gentle anticlockwise twist and it comes straight off, making...

Strip or overboard blown lath and plaster walls

overboard the lath ones, life’s too short to strip them (dirt, effort, waste removal)

    Plastering over Artex questions.

Another similar option is board it as said, but leave a shadow gap of say 15mm-25mm between board edge and coving, and bead it. So you end up with a really sharp plastered edge, a rock solid ceiling, and due to the gap the coving looks better/more original than it would if you boarded and...

    Stepped cracks , subsidence ?

Big time, didn’t spot that. Top trim looks visible bowed to me. I think the subsidence concern pics were low level though.

    Stepped cracks , subsidence ?

I’d set a reminder for a 2030 check up and forget about it. It looks nowhere near worrying level in my eyes and dead common in places of that age

    Single Skin Garage - Damp

Pretty common for these not to have a dpc, and arguably a bit pointless having one anyway, as it’s not going to stop water tracking sideways through/under the single skin. I deffo don’t think any kind of retro fit dpc will be worth doing. Maybe a few coats of Thompson weather seal type stuff on...

Pics of a bathroom I did

My trusty temporary light I’ve had since the 90s? ;) yeah pretty pointless, probably a blazing hot summer day with loads of light coming in through the window

They were a nightmare. I’d never have chosen them myself, but yeah I’m dead pleased with the look. The laser was a must.

    UPVC Window gaps internal

the excess overhanging vertical dpc can be trimmed a bit then foam as you say. The foam you’ve got is fine I’d probably foam at the time of fixing the reveal boards and stick em on with the foam

Pics of a bathroom I did

Hi all, despite this section seeming to have turned into a general q&a from what I can see ? Here are a load of pics of the bathroom I did for my lad last year. Full strip out of 80s salmon pink suite, board and skim, new ply+backerboard floor, all plumbing, tanking, tiling. Main issue was...

    Shimming metal stud walls

Sounds like you’re all good really if it’s just about plumb. The fact it’s larger tiles is going to be more forgiving than small ones where a cut down a slightly off-plumb edge is more obvious to the eye.

    Shimming metal stud walls

bonding coat plaster, after boarding, to get it bang on before skimming. Edit: sorry, didn’t read your post properly, you’re doing backer boards, so shimming if it’s a full cut wood shim / firring with full contact to the board, or dubbing out the tile adhesive is your best bet if you can’t get...

    Shimming metal stud walls

Yeah you can. It’s the choice between ball aching the tiling or prepping the plaster so the tiling’s easy. Both are valid. I’d personally rather sort the wall and know I’m not going to come unstuck on the tiling. You can also mitigate it a bit by thinking about the corners which is probably...

I’d level it off with some bonding then skim then tile

Is this just a 90 degree corner

Not totally sure what you’re asking but if you need to zoom in on it then there’s no way it’s going to be noticeable from the ground so I wouldn’t worry. The corner trim will be stuck on with silicone or some other adhesive.

how do I tackle this series of jobs?

The only safe way to work up there is Scaffolding or a sturdy tower. Where is the water coming in? The French doors are unlikely to need replacing unless there’s something specifically wrong with them. The lintel could be fitted by a decent window fitter if they were replaced, or a builder if...
