Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

On the other hand, I do seem to recall cleaning the fan in my workshop at some point, away from the boiler; so I'm sure you're right, and it is a plug connector, but it just didn't want to give when I tried to pull it out. I had to sum up the situation when I e-mailed the coal supplier on...

Well, I pulled as hard as I dare, but it didn't pull apart ....

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Hello again: boiler went out in the night again - all hot, fan off, when I went to bed - so I've taken some photos before relighting - 3 attached, I don't really know my way around these forums, not sure how to post photos correctly, so I hope you can see these. I put a square of white paper...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Certainly, but I'll have to leave it until I declinker - I can't drop the fascia panel unless the declinkering arm is pulled forward. The fire has just caught and is building again, so fingers crossed.

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

The thick power cable from fan goes into something that looks like an old-style black plastic lampholder, anchored horizontally to the drop-down fascia that carries all the electrics; there's a black plastic collar that you can unscrew - just like a lampholder, in fact - but when that is undone...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks for your message. As the boiler went out on me last night anyway, I have removed the fan from its two securing screws - but I can't remove it altogether, as I would prefer, because I don't want to mess with the power supply cable, in case I screw it up. Makes it awkward to work on, of...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

The fan blades are looking clean - looking at them from the open side of the casing, without removing the fan from the boiler. I cleaned them thoroughly when I removed the fan a year ago, and I know how the blades get furred up over time. I've cleaned them a good few times over the years...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Still having trouble keeping our TRG80 going ... Fired it up with new anthracite grains last Thursday. It went out late Saturday afternoon. It has clung on since then - coming up to four days - but the fire drops right down low, to the point where the heat leak radiators are barely lukewarm...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Pleased to say that the replacement new fuel seems to have solved the main problem: instead of the boiler slowly fading, and then taking hours to recover, with the fan blowing constantly, it now stays hot, and it hasn't gone out, or faded, since I relit it on Thursday evening (so still early...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks for that - in the meantime, I have been able to see that there is a metal "hood" over the top of the duct opening, which leaves a slit open - looks just like a pillbox in fortifications. The slit is clear - and I can see my toothbrush head moving in behind the slit as it bangs up against...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

I have removed the fire grate and the heavy ram cover, can see the 2 secondary air ducts, but am really struggling to get to them! I'm at full stretch, can just manage to get an old toothbrush in there, but have no purchase on it, as I have to hold it just between two fingers. You need a...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Tank is about half full, ball valve shut off as it should be, and yes, water level is just above the brass inlet valve assembly at the wall of the tank. Water is clear, but there are some evil-looking reddish scummy deposits in there, on the bottom and around the walls. But it's been like that...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks again. Sorry, but what is the "heating F/E" tank (I don't understand the F/E). I take it this is the small black plastic tank in our loft, loosely called the expansion tank? And what is the water level supposed to be? What am I looking for when I check? The heat leak radiator...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

I can see what you mean - I think. But presumably the thermostat sensor (a little phial, let into the boiler casing?) is what triggers - and stops - the fan operation. Could the fan be cutting in too late to revive the fire, because the sensor is not triggering it early enough? In other...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks for that. I'm having the chimney swept this week, then I'll clear out any remaining fuel, attempt to clean the secondary air ducts, and relight the boiler with fuel from a fresh delivery (hoping that's not as bad as the previous delivery - assuming the problem is with the fuel to begin...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks, Terrywookfit - I had already gathered from earlier threads that you might be the go-to man for Triancos! Appreciate your advice on accessing the secondary air ducts - but I don't like the sound of "remove clinker ejector ram". How do I do that? Surely it is attached to the linkage...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Thanks for your message. Yes, I started from the HETAS website, and no luck so far. The first outfit on the list tried selling me a new oil system instead - though they can't be arsed to do a site visit any more. They just asked me to photo the set up, and they would do me a quote based on...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Many thanks for your informed thoughts. The thing is, we were having none of these issues before switching to the new fuel ... But I hear what you say about the air ducts: is it just a matter of removing the heavy cast iron fire grate - does it just sit loosely on lugs? I can't quite recall -...

Trianco TRG80 - fire keeps dying

Hello, We've had two Trianco solid fuel boilers, been using them since 1976. Since a new delivery of fuel a few weeks ago, I find the boiler takes HOURS to come up to temperature - i.e. fan runs continuously for several hours - and then drops away to the point where the fire is so low that it...
