[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

Well that all seemed to work out pretty well. Didn't trip (I think), plenty of hot water. If it trips again in the near future I'll call up the landlord, but otherwise all's good. Many thanks.

Fair enough. If it trips, it's one for the landlord.

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

Ah... so if it does trip, might I get somewhere by experimenting with that turny switch? Is that some kind of target temperature setter?

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

I turned the economy seven switch back on a moment ago and heard something starting up inside the tank, so it didn't just re-pop the cutout instantly.

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

Thanks very much. No fear of me doing any replacing myself; that's what the landlord is for! I'm always happy to take the simple steps and the simple measurements, though. If it doesn't cut out again and all seems well, might write "cutout" next to the little rectangle with a chinagraph pen for...

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

Gave it a gently pushing with the thin, flat-headed screwdriver. A very noticeable click, and I believe it has moved back a little. Still visible as a little red rectangle. So maybe roundabout economy seven switching on time, it'll pop out again (or just work). Addendum: First multimeter I...

Certainly do have a multimeter. Got a couple. I can check for voltages, no worries. I see a terminal A, B and big chunky earth on there to test.

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

At risk of being thick, because I really don't want to screw anything up, is the consensus that "I should try pushing in the red rectangle marked 'safety' and, if the failure persists, get the professionals in?" Or is it "the cutout is that red rectangle, but don't touch it; just get the...

[SOLVED] Big (overnight) water heater ceased functioning - manual says there's a cut-out button

I've got a water heater of model Premier Plus Unvented Model Number PP210E. It has, as far as I can tell, two heating elements. One near the bottom, meant to be run from the economy 7 overnight electricity (which has spent the last decade turned on), and one near the top that runs from 24 hour...
