Downstairs there is a switch for the downstairs light and the upstairs light and upstairs there is a swistch for the downstairs light and the upstairs light in other words there is a switch for the downstairs light at the top and bottom of the stairs and the same again for the upstaiirs light

Totally agree, I wanted to say this at post 15 (as I'm sure EFL was too) but wanted to make sure first. Just to clarify cables and terminals .

There is a strange arrangement in the ceiling lighst too with some brown and blue wires.

Hello everyone, please be gentle. Our stairs lights have a mind on their own and depending on switch positions we cant turn one of them off sometimes. I've changed the switches thinking one of them might be broken but it's still the same as before. I've looked in the lighting circuits on here...
