Do you mean the cold water storage cistern or the feed and expansion cistern? One is usually big the other one much smaller. If it is turning to steam you could have a major safety problem on your hands.

it's not just standing water on the pipe.... it was a puddle on the floor.... we do get a certain amount of condensation on the bottom of the toilet cistern.... this water has just appeared in the recent cold spell...

You could have searched the forum, been on before. Cold water comes out of ground into cistern, warm damp air passes by, water condenses. Keep taking the tablets. Next?

They didn't have all these problems with outside toilets. What price progress? Since the condensation is distilled water, put a drip tray under the cistern and collect it for battery top-ups etc.

Yeah that’s another one but usually affects plastic cisterns rather than ceramics... lots of steam would do it on a ceramic tho. :)

Not a typo - just a term I use for concealed cisterns - based on a brand name that I used when they first came about. So you can get whatever one you want - but best to get one that's insulated.

Could be that or condensation from the cistern, give it a while to full dry out then sand and give it a coat of paint and see how it goes. If the stain comes through then try some stain block paint.

If the cistern is plastic then this is a warm surface and shouldnt have as much, if any condensation on it. If it is porcelain then this could sweat as the surface is cold against the warmer temperature of the bathroom. Having said that the paint should still be ok.

the problem is less the heat of the room than the extremely cold water in the mains at the moment. Even if the ventilation is o.k., the cold water will cause moisture to condense out of air of an acceptably low level of humidity when it contacts the cistern. The only answer so far that is likely...

And ... flow switch to the cistern supply. Not only the condensation you want to get rid of.

Why don't cistern manufacturers line the system with some sort of insulation foam, job done, no more condensation problems. It could be as easy as spraying on an expandable foam product around the inside during manufacture :?

Our old bathroom cistern was covered in condensation in winter and used to drip on the floor. When I put our new toilet in during last summer I bought a cheap yoga mat from triathlon, think cost about £5. I used a white sanitary silicone to stick the yoga mat all round the sides of the inside...

Hi i have a little saying " heat and ventilation reduces condensation" most pot cisterns will condensate up to where the cold water level is as the cold water comes in to the warm room,, it sounds like you need some form of permanent ventilation in the room or a automatic fan...

If you put something like this http://och.co.uk/washroom/loo_blue_biodegradable_50g_12_pack in the cistern then next time you wipe up the water, with a white paper towel, you'll soon see if it is from the toilet or if it is condensation.

Running the water feed from the tank in the loft space will make a difference, I gather at the moment the cistern it is fed directly from the mains, Water Temperature difference having run underground in the Winter causes the condensation,

So, you get NO condensation with the fan on? And you have a window. Sounds like you don't need a fan at all.
