    New joists new floor.

How did it look? I would go osb for a floor over chipboard. But why not track down some t&g flooring ply? Or use normal floorboards with a thin layer of ply fixed on top?

Exposed truss roof: can I remove diagonal braces and replace them with full OSB boards? (PICS INSIDE)

If the OSB were not there then I would say no, unless you were putting diagonal members in. That the OSB is there however, should mean that it will provide racking resistance I presume you want to essentially plasterboard the OSB so that you can look up and see the trusses and in between them a...

    Shed insulation mistake...

Hi All, I think I made a big mistake when finishing off part of my shed. I insulated a partitionof the shed whish is kept at around 30 degrees. I have 9mm OSB, 100mm glass wool, 18mm OSB, breathable membrane and then corrugated roof sheets. Above the insulation is soaking, I guess it's...

    Best exterior wood

I've got an old flower bed (1.6m x 0.43m) which we had laid a piece of OSB board on and painted with fence paint. It's started to warp and peel and just wondering if there should be something better we should use to replace it with? Many thanks

    Filling joints in slab walls..

Had no problem drilling in my old garage just depth is limited .You could fit Osb sheet with foam adhesive and paint or overboard that with plasterboard which could then take fixings.

Advice on insulating garage - Materials?

Is there a special paint I could use to paint all the breeze block and other bricks? something that I could then paint over once I have the OSB on, as I intend to then paint it all white? I had a look in Wickes today but all the paint that looked like damp protection was all for external use -...

    Vertical supports

Mdf gives nice smooth paint finish but is heavy and won’t survive wet weather but fine for one off. Ply is fairly smooth but more expensive while OSB is cheapest but rougher surface . Or you could paint your design on heavy duty lining paper and stick to timber .

    Removing paint from osb.

I think from now on whenever someone asks how to do something that is fiddly, laborious and pointless, we can say to them "but that would be like trying to get paint off OSB!"

    OSB FINISH

In areas that are likely soaked you could use acrylic splash backs? Or use cheap arrylic from greenhouse type places screwed in the higher risk areas. That gives the ability to put paper/pictures/logos under the plastic. The more normal areas could be simply painted. Someone I know had a desktop...

    Stud wall in garage?

Good points thanks, Unfortunately ply and OSB are not good as sound reducers, plasterboard is a lot better (apparently). Also plasterboard has much better fireproof properties etc . cant i just paint the plasterboard and it'll be fine? Also OSB 3 (whatever the 3 is for) is more expensive than...

Exposed truss roof: can I remove diagonal braces and replace them with full OSB boards? (PICS INSIDE)

Yes I am. Does that affect any building codes or similar? Yes that's the idea. Just something to make the ceiling look less grungy. I did think about cladding the trusses although it'd be very tedious and I'm guessing hardwood would be too expensive. Paint would probably do, or if worst comes...

OSB under plasterboard on internal wall

It is a long time since I saw one of those? Chances are that painted on the OSB in large letters is something like "Do Not Remove this panel" at least [as I recall] that is what was done on the site I was on. Ken.

    OSB primer ?

Yes, you will need a primer. OSB is highly porous and textured, which means it tends to soak up paint unevenly and can leave a blotchy finish if not properly prepped. Oil-based or stain-blocking acrylic latex primers work best. Apply 2–3 thin coats, letting each dry fully. Avoid water-based...

Conservatory Exterior Wall - What Material To Finish With?

instead of plywood sheets, why not use OSB boards. Then on the outside, screw on tile battens vertically, then fit rendaboard -12mm board. its designed to be rendered of course, but I guess you could just paint it.

    New joists new floor.

Hi, I'm about to replace rotten old down stairs floor. (Joists & planks.) I'd like to create a hopefully seamless gloss painted floor. At the moment 22mm P5 moisture resistant chipboard t&g seams to be the thing, then painted. Q. is this a good idea? Is OSB board better? Also any...

    New Flat roof outhouse issue.

Hi all, I am building an outhouse that is flat roofed, which I intend to cover with EDPM membrane. The wooden frame and deck are built and due to requiring the water to drain to a single gulley I have created upstands at the edges. The pitch is at 1:40 and the deck is made from 18mm osb, with...

    Waterproofing wood outside

The osb will be trickier to seal and probably won't last as long as the t&g. Any garden wood paint will do, but boiled linseed, danish oil, IKEA Trixig. Oil is a quick and easy option, top it up annually.

    Kitchen units in garage

Plasterboard paints fine , been used like that over 100 years . You need a sheet of osb behind whatever you fit to take the upper cupboard brackets . If garage is damp it will destroy the units and any worktop .
