Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Hi, thanks yea there are, have now closed them and will see if that reduces the hourly calls for heat!

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

I think that’s what I have, I actually seem to have 3 non returns, have attached a pic if that is helpful… I have currently closed the valve after the recirculating pump and turned it off to rule out any issues with that.

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Thanks, would that be a check valve on the hot water flow side?

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Yea, was more an either or, so wanted to narrow it down. I isolated the secondary pump using the valves either side and killed the power to it, so will see how that is tonight!

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

I have tested this today, by turning off the hot water from the tank, since I have done that it hasnt fired at all, which would say to me: 1. There is something leaking a small amount of hot water 2. Even with the pump off, the pressure of the cold into the tank, is pushing hot water around...

    UFH Help

I haven't noticed a major issue with short cycling to be honest, so far... Just so I understand, boilers generally try to stick to a 20 degree delta t, so if you have it set to say 65, it will want the water coming back to be around 40/45? If its lower (35 or so) that would potentially cause it...

Boiler firing constantly for hot watere

Many thanks for all the previous replies on this. I turned off the secondary pump, which has definitely reduced the boiler firing to top up the tank. However I have become a little more scientific, and am monitoring when the boiler is firing as the attached shows. I have noticed it’s still...

    Towel Rail off DHW

    Ah thanks!

    UFH Help

Just to hopefully close this off. I got some new thermostatic heads for the ufh manifolds today and they seem significantly better at holding a steady temp, this also seems to have made the boiler much happier and it seems to modulate down to 20/25% when a few ufh circuits are up to temp and...

    Towel Rail off DHW

Hi After a few weeks of working out my UFH woes which now seem to be mainly solved, I was bleeding the few radiators we have when I noticed the towel rail in our bathroom doesn’t get hot when the central heating is on, but just when the hot water tank is topping up. House is 20yrs old, and...

Thanks, really interesting, and some food for thought. I will have a further play and see where I get to. Paul

    UFH Help

It was 3 mins, the hot water was just topping up I think, was only on for 10 mins overall that time. So basically this all sounds quite 'normal'? Ta Paul

    UFH Help

Hi Thanks, so I kind of came up against 3 scenarios: 1. The boiler from cold getting up to temp (65ish) - 10988-454 up to 10989-129 - took around 20 mins 2. Boiler with just UFH on, wasnt making much noise, just seemed to be keeping temp - 10989-133 up to 10989-175 - 3 mins 3. Boiler with UFH...

Hi Thanks for your help! This may be a 'green question' but where is the gas flowmeter? Paul

    UFH Help

So flowrate, still a mystery to me as they are all very dirty and I have yet to find someone willing to swap them (they are on the pipes themselves), however I do have the auto balancing actuators, which seems to be keeping a decent temp difference between flow/return on each. Each manifold has...

    UFH Help

Hi Thanks for the reply, the manifold temps flow/return come up quite quickly, prob within 20 mins or so once it is on, so I dont think a massive amount of that time is spent heating really cold water. Currently my manifolds are at around 23 degrees, having been off for 2 hrs or so. I...

    UFH Help

Just an update, incase anyone is interested! I have now replaced the thermostatic heads on both manifolds, as it seemed they weren't clipping on properly (some strange click clack connection) so the temps were a bit variable. My manifold flow temp is now ~50 degrees and with the salus aba heads...

    UFH Help

Hi Thanks, thats some great feedback! I have come a little further with this, I bought a temp monitor with a clamp for flow/return, and it shows that the manifold temp is around 42 degrees, when the mixer shows 50, so may be previously the water going in wasn't as hot as I thought. Great idea...
