    Simple Puzzle

Hm. At what time would that be, and/or where would that point (sic.) be?

    Current scrap prices

That is not true. All of that is irrelevant. I agree.

anchoring to a solid floor - screed problem?

6mm Rawl-type plugs and screws into the screed will provide as much strength as wood screws into the ceiling joists, and the average screed will be deep enough to do this. Anchoring into the substrate below the screed would be overkill, IMHO, unless the screed turns out to be very thin or...

    Simple Puzzle

I disagree. That's a different scenario. Why do people introduce alternative scenarios in an attempt to prove invalid reasoning? Yes, but now "imagine" your scenario being run on two different days, with the random speed factor - will your two people pass on the second day at the same...

    Pipe watertight-ness

That's my point precisely. You haven't yet said what gauge this pipework is or what it carries. If it carries grey waste, and if the repair is going to be boxed in and made inaccessible, then it wouldn't be wise to use a compression connection. Solvent welded would be a good method of...

    Crimping tool - DIY use

A thing seeming irrational to you is not the same as that thing actually being irrational. Anyone can design, build, and test a new product that they then claim is maintenance free. Nobody is required to then prefer that new product to an existing technique (e.g. crimping) that has been...

Need a time delay circuit for my float switch and 12v pump?

I respect your views and knowledge, ricicle, however... This is not an industrial control situation, so my comment was made in the context of the topic, and was an observation on breezer's apparent compulsion to post something on every topic, even when he doesn't have the first clue what's...

Need a time delay circuit for my float switch and 12v pump?

That isn't a problem with float switches, it's a problem with liquids. This is just the usual breezer b*llocks. You're making it up as you go along. The solution (no pun intended) is to use two switches, not a timer.

It depends on your definition of the word "point".

It's an illegal installation then. I disagree - I would expect him to be happy to solve it, if you paid him.

anchoring to a solid floor - screed problem?

If you reveal the closely-guarded secret of the thing(s) that you want to fasten to the floor, then it will be easier to help you.

Did you drain it? Eh? :? How many radiators do you have in total? Have you balanced the system?

    Bottom row of bath tiles

Some do, some don't. Er, the same thing(s) that you would use to stop them slipping down in any other scenario. I don't understand why you think that a batten is a solution to that problem. :?

    Pipe watertight-ness

These two statements are not really consistent. First, you need to find the leak. A theory, or a feeling, just isn't enough.

kitchen waste does not drain away

It sounds likely that you have a gully blockage, or perhaps further downstream. Where the pipe outside goes into the ground, can you see the end of the pipe, or does it just disappear into concrete?

Replacing elements in a creda storage heater

Yes. It is. The risk concerns isolating. Don't rely on the meter switching times. Do isolate the circuit you're working on. Don't assume that you've isolate the correct circuit. Do have a means of checking for dead on whatever you're working on. If you find yourself thinking...

It doesn't melt ice, it lowers the freezing temperature of water.
