    Wool on Gas Fire

Hello, We have inherited a gas fire in a house we have purchased. We don’t use it and don’t intend to. Today I removed the coals because my son keeps trying to pick them up and found this wool at the bottom…. Can I remove it? Again - we don’t intend to use this… Thanks for any advice!

What can I do to tidy this up?

Thankyou - appreciate the responses. I will get someone in to sort. Tell me this - if I had someone in to fit the lights in the downstairs rooms (there were existing lights in place) is it standard practice for them to check what the wiring is like in the loft before they switch the fixture...

What can I do to tidy this up?

Hi Had the loft partially boarded yesterday and when I was up there after I noticed this in a bit that is non boarded. Coming from light fixture in room below. I thought of just putting a loft lid downlight cover over it but wanted to check that was safe? Secondly, do I need an electrician...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Hello. I finally got round to putting a vent into the plasterboard as per the suggestion. There was a brick wall immediately behind the plasterboard - for some reason i was expecting it to be an empty like a fireplace? Does this mean they have bricked it up? and if so - do I need to take a brick...

    Roof Valley too wide…

And last question on this sorry - it is possible that a issue with a valley (the one pictured) could cause a visible leak in the front room (directly below) but not in the loft? I assume the water can run down something and then enter the structure slightly lower....?

    Roof Valley too wide…

ok, so needs to be done regardless i am guessing... if we are getting a dormer at back in coming months this wouldn't be work that then gets destroyed / re done? or does that depend on our specific plans...?

    Roof Valley too wide…

hello! I have a leak in a ceiling (slow as has been there for approx year and not dramatically worsened but is damp to touch so want to sort) of a room directly under one valley. But no moisture in loft directly above it! and on the other side a leak into the loft…. One roofer has told me...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Thanks again - three clarifications please: 1. To fit a hit and miss vent can I just drill into the plasterboard (cavity), clear hole and fit over top? or is it a little more complicated? 2. My understanding of flue is it is where the smoke etc goes from a single fireplace? One flue per...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

So possibly we have two problems due to the way the chimney breast has been dealt with... condensation due to temp differential and then lack of venting... I have a humidity meter and dehumidifier which put on when cooking, washing up, drying washing. But was worried that it would be sucking...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Thanks! This is all very useful. Is this not a vent (external)? It is to the left of the chimney stack as you can see (when viewed from inside the room).. https://ibb.co/h9v4J3D Either way, looks like I need to find a builder and a plasterer.

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Thanks very much. This is very useful. yes - it is a very old property. we are on the first floor - should the vent be on the floor below, or should we have one too? And sorry for novice question - but I am assuming this is a vent into the room as opposed to on the brick externally? And...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Thanks! That is good to know re: yellow patch. On the condensation - please see attached another picture showing the condensation droplets that run vertically down the wall. https://ibb.co/VQZ768t My main concern is the changing moisture patch on the ceiling (wet to touch).... surely I can't...

    Weird Moisture Patch by chimneybreast

Hello Moved in to new property 6 months ago. Weird moisture patches, and condensation drops appearing on one wall where chimney breast is. Chimney needed some work - new flashing box and re-pointing. This stopped a leak that we could hear when it was raining. However - still getting these...
