    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks all for your replies and thanks D Hailsham for your link too. I've now spoken to the plumber who installed the new boiler and we discussed some of the issues raised here. He says that the ABV is in the correct place and he's done lots of installations like that! I've searched my...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi D Hailsham, Thanks for your reply. No this is the reference I meant - sorry - I should have posted it with the last message: The ABV is situated directly under my boiler - it's two inches away from it. I'm fairly convinced now that the ABV is ineffective in these circumstances and...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

 That was before the note of alarm mate! You and the SI make a great team, though: who'd think that you lived thousands of miles apart! I confess to allowing an offending boiler onto my property, I won't say what I think of the engineer... What happened to Confucius? Thanks...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Was that a Lord Woolf by any chance? Has he had problems with his plumbing then? Perhaps he's in another thread...Or do you mean Boeu, Timber, Virginia, or Were (the last two are interchangeable, incidentally) lol. Tony, the writer can intend all he wants, but he can't tell the reader how to...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi D Hailsham and Agile, Nope, sorry D Hailsham. You cannot tell people how they should read. If these were points of law, perhaps the language would be less ambiguous. People are entitled to interpret according to language, not to context. As described previously, lawyers have a field day...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi D Hailsham, Who decrees that 'should not' must be read in context? I might not understand the context. So I'm going to read it from the point of view of language only. In this case it means it 'ought not' to. Agile, I think that what D Hailsham is getting at is whether or not the text...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks Mehran - I'm going to get a room thermostat. As I mentioned earlier, before the engineer came to repair the boiler, it had never been set higher than about '10 to the hour' (using clock dial notation). It has about two thirds more capacity than that! Although we leave the heating on 24/7...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks for your reply D Hailsham, Allowing for the fact that my new boiler could be classed as a replacement system (as you describe above) - I'm looking at Table 2, end column 'Minimum provisions for replacement systems', and the row 'Space heating zones.' Where the two intersect it says...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks for your reply D Hailsham, Well, it seems that you agree with me here - up to a point… If I'm looking at the correct example (eg. p.16 Table 2 of the Guide, 'Minimum provisions for control of gas-fired central heating systems'), it does indeed say that things should be done, not...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

 No John, but the 'stronger earth' guy was the one who also suggested that running a boiler 24/7 was like leaving a vacuum cleaner on continuously. I think he currently gets my vote for taking the…biscuit!

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks for your reply D Hailsham. I take on board your points about the thermostat usage - thanks for explaining, and for the radiator link which I'm sure will come in useful in the future. Our radiators were balanced when we had full central heating system installed in 2004. When we had the new...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi Slugbabydotcom, Many thanks for your reply. Confucius is very wise! And he really did say 'he who will not economise will have to agonise'.. Unfortunately I was trying to economise in the wrong way. But I have always used the boiler control for heat output as well, and (up...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi all, Thanks for your replies. A bypass was fitted at the time of installation - and it's been decided today that the bypass is the problem. It needs 2.38 galls per minute flow, and when the radiator thermostats are low it doesn't get this. So it's been opened fully. This seems like a...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Or sandwiches Slugbabydotcom? Thanks for your replies Slugbabydotcom and JohnD. Our engineer denies that anything going on in the kitchen would affect the boiler! We do have a kettle about three feet away, and a gas hob. The boiler is near a double sink too although we always have a big...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Hi D Hailsham, Thanks for your reply. Yes, it lasted 3 years from new. We didn't have a single problem in those years, but when the heat exchanger started to go, there was a single incident of the overheat light coming on and the boiler cutting out - just that once. It restarted by resetting...

Ravenheat CSI 85 Pump running intermittently day and night

Sorry Louis, it was the cold. It brought out the irony in me. Anyway, I'm glad that you seem to have solved your problem - best of luck and fingers crossed. I maligned my CSI85 - it's now intermittent again. It's 9.20pm and it's just come back on. Perhaps there is a boiler god after all...

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Thanks bengasman - that's very true. It's back to intermittent now (although presently off  We could do with a little icy blue-faced emoticon here, couldn't we?). I've got an engineer coming on Thursday….

Ravenheat CSI 85 Pump running intermittently day and night

You've got a Ravenheat CSI85 and its running intermittently? You're lucky!!!

    Ravenheat CSI85 - Stronger Earth???

Nope, it wouldn't reset. So we had heating and hot water, albeit intermittently, but now after 2 hours worth of Ravenheat repairs, we've got nothing... Perhaps you'll see me on Watchdog! Cheerio!
