    armoured cable for cooker?

If I'm reading your post correctly I'm struggling to understand what the terminations have to do with the insulation type?

    Sockets in a ceiling

I have to agree with RF, sockets in commercial ceiling voids are very common indeed. There are also tens of thousands of multi gang sockets mounted on the underside of office desks. However, over time, some of the big plugin power supplies do fall out of the cheaper multi gang sockets.

    Gewiss box Vs tractor

That's a bit of a blasé reply from you. If a sparks was called to a farm and was then was confronted by RF's pic they could assume nothing. So I'm not sure how you know it's single phase installation and the green/yellow cable in with the yellow is connected to earth? It could be the...

    Why PAT test?

You really should read before you post.... And if you think your vacuum cleaner cables are prone to damage you decide the inspection intervals, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month..it's your call boss

    So Sad

...and while you guys are in the process of making a perfectly safe socket outlet even safer don't forget to include the lamp (bulb) less coffee table ES or BC light in your design.

    patio heater no plug

Although I'd agree the OP should put on his best animal fur and forage timber to burn we should not forget that the fuse in the plug is over current protection not overload protection. So it's rating is based on the cable size and not the appliance rating.

    Why PAT test?

Although you are 100% correct, you'll struggle to convince most of the posters in here  Most would rather read the IEE's guide into how to rip customers off than the actual regulations.

    Emergency Light

If the emergency lamp is only illuminated in a mains failure condition this luminaire is regarded as non-maintained. I've never seen a central system feeding one lamp in a luminaire, but I'm sure they exist.

    Emergency Light

If it's an emergency pack in a general luminaire it's classed as non-maintained. This means that the battery pack will only be used if the additional permanent supply to that particular luminaire fails Why does it need to come on in the event of a fire? Before you answer, please read all...

That could very well have been the case. It has all the hall marks of a techno geeks **** up.

    So why would anyone...

The building is a bog standard eight floor office block in London. The comms room is at the other end of the building and as far as I could establish there didn't seem to be anything near the switch room that would be affected by electrical radiation. I know they are pretty poor pics but if...

    So why would anyone...

...do this? Yes, the cable tray has been totally enclosed in lead along with the exposed SWA's, but only in the switch room. Who ever did it must thought to hell with the rating factors. It would be a nice little rip out job :D

    Piccies

In your original post you didn't imply you were an apprentice, however, that makes it even worse. One of the problems here is although we are working in similar fields we are working in two totally different worlds. As a supervised apprentice how the hell could you get a minor electric shock...

    Piccies

In the context of this post having 3 *nasty* shocks from the same installation can only mean one of two things. 1. Tony does not have a lot of experience of working on old installations. In this case Tony should not be working on the installation. 2. The installation is so unsafe that...

    Piccies

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "still going strong"? Just because things are still working it doesn't mean the installation is safe to use or safe to work on. And it doesn't mean that when your backs turned it wont catch fire either. As a professional sparks of 10 years that's such a...

    Safety certificate

That's interesting. On a PIR report where would someone enter non-conformance's to the building regulations and how would they be coded? If the switch was in the bathroom but not in zone 1 what reg would be quoted for a code 1? That's seems to be good advice but who decides if the defects...
