Use Angle Grinder not at an angle?

Gloves, goggles, and mask are a good idea for pretty much any task involving an angle grinder. ;)

    Laptop "upgrade"

I'm trying to figure out why you're trying to dissaude him from an SSD which would be a huge performance boost on virtually any machine, not to mention more robust the way people tend to treat laptops. That said, a cheap 240GB SSD is not an investment worth making. Upgrades failing is not...

    Laptop "upgrade"

Let me just compare an apple and an asteroid then. Guess they can be similar in shape anyway. Thanks for the Wikipedia link, I totally didn't know anything about the subject.

Not really a DIY question - Capacitive Loads Query

If the adapter were actually dissipating 35W+ with no load, it would be very noticably warm. Simple enough to test.

    "UPS" dead after power cut

A UPS in the off state must not consume substantial current (holding an NC contact open..), nor must it connect its internal inverter and the incoming supply together. This pretty much requires all relays be NO. Schematics for common UPSes are educational and quite easily available (speaking...

    "UPS" dead after power cut

The simple answer is that the UPS control circuitry runs off the battery, and only off the battery. All relays should be normally open.

Because the performance of an SSD is incomparably better than an HDD?

    DBAN disk wiping

Of course it can, the partition table doesn't magically become gibberish. If I can read and write them by hand, Windows can sure as hell do it. You're correct in that it doesn't actually remove data, but that's irrelevant as the OS and filesystem don't care what data may have been there before.

    DBAN disk wiping

So a program told you the drive was massively faulty and you just pressed ahead anyway? You don't need to use DBAN to wipe it. The Windows installer will do this quite fine by itself.

    Working with fiberglass

You'll be absolutely fine. It's not Ebolaglass. ;)

    Working with fiberglass

They may not be the 'next asbestos', but they are a fairly nasty, persistent skin and lung irritant. Avoid contact with skin and, even with extraction, a simple valved mask is advisible, simply to avoid the discomfort should you inhale fibres. As JobAndKnock says, some of the chemicals...

Got any paper to back that one up?

Double plug socket with USB sockets

Do they have a physical switch in them? If not, they must consume electricity. That said: Being on permanently does not result in a short lifespan.

Do you actually have any comment other than 'a quid is too much to plug my TV in'?

    TV Reception

    Now you have.

    TV Reception

meh. It's still not expensive seeing as you need a grand total of 1 per TV. A right angle adaptor will get you closer to a wall than the bend radius of a piece of WF100.

Extending flex on LCD TV to wall mount

[/url] Again with the dog. (yes, go for it)

Extending flex on LCD TV to wall mount

No, it will promptly burst into flames and kill your dog. Realistically, it will be fine, if you want to be picky, change the fuse for a 5A.

What is this? Home Automation PCB but can you identify it?

Yes. There's a photoresistor between the two caps at the bottom right. Have you cleaned it all out properly and tried it without contamination?
