    Electric boiler?

Since when has politics made sense? The big problem is lack of rotating mass. With an alternator connected to a large steam turbine, a sudden load will be taken up by the weight of the rotating mass, but with wind farms, solar and wave power, there is an inverter between the rotating mass if...

Oil central heating issue, Radiator actuator keeps switching off!!

It is called a motorised valve, it has a micro switch inside, so the boiler will only run after it has opened. I have tried reading the description, but can't work out if valve at fault, or what supplies the valve (thermostat and programmer) what tools do you have to test with?

Recomendation for a palm router and planer

I volunteer to work in a large unit with only limited 230 volt outlets, so cordless is far less hassle running out leads, but in the main @opps is correct, drills, grinders, saws, etc, good reason for cordless, but router is not normally used when no 230 volt power. They don't tend to be used...

Battery size for angle grinder IAN 485600_2501 Parkside (Lidi)

Yes, so now the big question, if I have used a 2 Ah battery before starting my gardening, so left with an odd number (1 or 3) 2 Ah batteries charged, can I use the 4 Ah while waiting for the 2 Ah to recharge? What happens if I put a 2 Ah and 4 Ah battery in the same garden tool? Can't believe...

    Electric boiler?

I had a Main 7 instant hot water boiler in the last house, it only did DHW, there was another boiler for central heating, seem to remember 18 kW, which was ample for the DHW supply, and we draw DHW for such a short time, turning off central heating when we want DHW is not really a problem. So...

    Electric boiler?

This is a very difficult subject. I had been told for years, cheaper to heat DHW with gas to electric, and I never questioned it. In the main as near impossible to measure, the gas boiler could modulate, so run times tells you nothing, and the immersion heater was powered from a FCU so not easy...

Is it me (us or us)?

Years ago I could get a plug from MANWEB which the line pin had the hole for the fuse so it only stuck out a very small amount from the wall, the insulators on the live pins resulted in their demise, but many of the moulded plugs also stick out less from the wall so washing machines and the like...

    Electric boiler?

It is not the efficiency, it is the start-up and run down times. Connah's Quay combined power gas/steam turbines take around 48 hours to get to maximum and to stop again. Moving for 50% to 75% output quite quick, but 25% to 95% that's slow, as the gas turns the turbine, then the waste heat makes...

    Pulled from another thread

I don't know what thread it was pulled from, but I can see the problems with 150%, the first time I came across it, was running and engine on two fuels to calibrate the engine, and we then ran it with a fuel under test to see when knocking started, and quoted the percentage of Octane it was...

Frustration, disappointment, money blown off the scale

I am an electrician who worked with welders setting up pre-heating, and stress relief, and also repairing welding machines and welding with them just enough to test my repairs, I was taught how to weld with stick and gas, during my apprenticeship, but that was in the 70s, and not really don't...

    TRV at top of radiator?

There are TRV heads which can be remotely controlled, the Kasa for example can be controlled with sensors on the opposite wall, and so can Drayton Wiser. I fitted Energenie TRV heads, which monitor both water and air temperature so it can compensate for the direct heating from the radiator, but...

Prepping for Solar - Installing Cable

Once fitted, you will get notification if voltage out of range, but until that point you don't really know how often voltage will be out of range.

Battery size for angle grinder IAN 485600_2501 Parkside (Lidi)

2 amps is not the same as 2 amp/hour. The Parkside 4 Ah Smart battery is limited in the software to 50 amps discharge current, so 1 kW which is likely well over the rating of the motor, but clearly not 2 amps by any stretch of the imagination.

Battery size for angle grinder IAN 485600_2501 Parkside (Lidi)

Yes, it seems they will, I see no problem with the 2 Ah for drills and garden tool, the latter is 40 volts, it uses two batteries, but the grinder one can give it some heavier work as to the drills.

PAP 20 B1, = 2 Ah PAP 20 B3, = 4 Ah Smart PAPS 204 A1, = 4 Ah Smart PAPS 208 A1, = 8 Ah Smart PAPS 2012 A1 = 12 Ah This is the 5 batteries listed as can be used with the grinder, the first 2 are not smart at larger, the last 3 are smart and smaller for same capacity. As far as I can see there...

    Electric boiler?

Many years ago, I visited the the alternative technology centre in Machynlleth well more towards Corris, but that is unimportant, they had built a home out of hay bales, or similar, and it retained most of the heat, it looked impressive, if one is satisfied with very small windows, and walls 2...
