    Plumbing Error?

Two thoughts. 1) I've occasionally fitted one deliberately off centre so when you stand in the shower the shower flexible comes off the mixer in the centre of where you're standing. 2) There's something in the wall which means to fit it centrally would be a lot more work.

    Hole in main water pipe

I moved the black polythene water pipe coming into the house and needed a joint for it. Mine was marked BS1972 but from memory it was the same size. Although there was one coupling for it, there was 3 different inserts for it depending on the pipe. Not sure if this applies to yours. Check this...

    Earth checking for grounding

I think you sum it up very well. Especially 'for many of us, it means connecting stuff to something that is only indirectly connected to earth somewhere else'. On a bit of a sideline - Your link to the livestock electrocution. Many years ago I was talking to a chap who said that some of the...

    Earth checking for grounding

And that in many electrical installations the equipotential zone doesn't have 'walls' so at some point must end. The zone needs consideration in the area use and building design, which the regs get hold of more and more.

    Earth checking for grounding

The part of the thread discussing earthing and bonding I read with great interest. Mainly because when it's clear that the two or more parties clearly know their stuff, in the ensuing debate, an interesting one at that, I hope to learn something. I'm not sure if I've learned anything from it...

    Earth checking for grounding

I agree. All part of trying to reduce the noise in the dataset to maybe see a correlation in the variable of interest.

    Earth checking for grounding

If the buzzy feeling wasn't down to a fault and you can regularly sense electrical phenomena, out of interest, what other phenomena can you sense JohnD?

    possible grounding issue

I think you're both right. You both see the same thing from slightly different angles. I think Bernard is looking at it from an overall point of view. But I can see the point about usage of terms and what the 'local' system is designed to achieve from EFLI's point of view too. I'm sometimes...

    Earth checking for grounding

Hmmn. Me too. I seem to remember from a dim & distant past physics lesson there being a derivation of it. But as you say. Relative to what? I don't have any test leads that long unfortunately.

    Earth checking for grounding

That did make me laugh as something similar had dawned on me after writing it, and yes you're correct. Even if you were to capacitively bypass the rod resistor it'd start to put you into the same boat. I was reading the paper on health benefits linked to earlier in the thread. It isn't very...

    Seen This?

 I'm the same. I never go away anywhere without a Fluke77 and a small lightweight tool kit. It's fixed loads of stuff over the years. I've had a 4 way strip with an IEC on it for many a year but took it a bit further - On the equipment end I always made sure that portables would plug in...

    Controlling a bathroom extractor fan

That's true TTC. It sounds like you've got bigger problems there, that calls for intrinsically safe equipment and anti-static pyjamas

    possible grounding issue

If you swap to a plastic condensate pipe consider going for a 32mm dia pipe rather than the 21.5mm one. The 21.5mm ones have a habit of freezing during cold weather as they leave the property depending on the way the boiler ejects its condensate.

    Controlling a bathroom extractor fan

I found the humidity sensing ones to play up after a while. They draw air past the sensor to work and when dust etc has built up around it and then gets damp it didn't shut off for ages until the sensor dried out. +1 for Bernard's thermostat. Type 'pipe thermostat' into google and be wary of...

    Earth checking for grounding

If it's coming in at high impedance I'm not so sure it is an extraneous service and would need to be bonded.

Charger / Power Supply for Kids Electric Ride On Car

After a bit of research, the car has a plug in charger that plugs into that connector on the dash.

Charger / Power Supply for Kids Electric Ride On Car

This looks like the same car to me. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ON-MOTORS-RECHARGEBLE-PARENTAL-CONTROL/dp/B003VCIH1S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1338598941&sr=8-5

Charger / Power Supply for Kids Electric Ride On Car

Can't tell you about the car, and like some have said the connector on the dashboard is confusing. The answer from the company suggests the charger was external and plugs into the connector. The look of the connector and apparent lack of physical polarisation suggests mains to me. You need to...

    Concrete over copper pipes

Leave them room to expand and contract too. Without it it might damage the pipes/joints/concrete over time. Denso tape has a very good rep for protecting buried pipes etc. But like Woody says slitting plastic pipe might be easier. It's in now but did you know you can get 10mm copper pipe...
