How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

Picked up a clamp meter yesterday to do just that. It’s been a complicated process so far but think we’re getting there.

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

Believe it or not, threw out a load before we moved in here 4 weeks ago. "Nah, never going to need that!"

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

If it wasn't so cold I would. I think I sort of have to muddle through until I get onto a smart meter then manipulate the EV tariff to reduce the cost

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

Yep. Process of elimination is what I'm trying to do. The new meross stat shows that I'm using up to 25 kWh heating our bedroom alone per day. I'm sure I'll get it down to 75;)

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

I'm going to. They actually advised me to switch to smart meter with current supplier then switch when ready. Their lead time for fitting is 8 weeks so going to have to wait is out with SP

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

We got a meross smart stat for our bedroom and can now control this. I've ended up putting a cheap timer on the immersion so it only comes on for a total of a couple of hours a day. The tank is tiny so we have to replenish more. Lat 24 hours we've only used 90 kWh which is an improvement. The...

    Replacing old UFH thermostats

Top tip. Ordered one from Amazon and it seems to do exactly what I was looking for. Ordered another couple direct from Meross. Thanks

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

Yes..... Our previous house was a 4 storey detached Victorian villa, insulated as best you can with that type of house and we were using 12-18kWh per day loadshifting overnight to take advantage of EV tariff, our bills were c.£120 per month. I reckon we're approaching 10x that as Scottish Power...

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

I have been taking readings, generally first thing in the morning and sometimes throughout the day. Lived here for 4 weeks, 3 of which the UFH didn't work. Waiting to get a smart meter fitted at which point I can shift everything onto an overnight EV tariff, however, been waiting nearly 2 weeks...

3, generally at home all day. Too many kW being used

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

My plan would be to just replace the fused switches with a simple timer. There was an earlier comment that said I'd need to use a timer in conjunction with the fused switch but has that not been usurped by the breaker being an RCBO, i.e. isn't the fused switch a legacy item that they just didn't...

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

There is electric UFH which is taking a fair bit and easier to regulate but a simple measure of my meter from 11pm-8am I reckon 20kw was the immersion. I've started switching it off at the board but obviously am looking for a better solution. No storage heaters and agree re insulation, it's on...

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

I’ll revisit today. The consumption so far IS horrendous, 110-180kw per day.

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

Thanks for the reply.... I was advised the same but there is no stat that I can see under that cover. I missed the 3A rating for the stat I was looking at.

How to control an immersion heater (Ed.)

I need to control my water heating for the short term. I have a tank with an immersion heater that does not have a thermostat and runs 24/7 with the hot water at 75C . The heater is a dual element, each with it's own fused spur. Can I initially swap the fused spurs with these timers which will...

    Replacing old UFH thermostats

Good spot…. The one I was looking at was painted over the identity plate but I have others which appear to be a model TM S15. I now know they’re rated at 20A but the breaker in the board is rated at 16A and when test the load (clamp meter at the board) in the bedroom it’s about 11A. I am...

    Replacing old UFH thermostats

I have an electric underfloor heating system with thermostats that must be 50+ years old. I want to replace them with modern wifi versions that I can schedule/control. Based on the pictures shown here, what are my options and in terms of wiring how should any new stat be wired?
