    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

As I need to get a professional in, I am probably going to leave it for the time being. That socket is not terribly important to me, and I am actually carrying out plenty of renovations elsewhere in my bungalow. I am going to spend my money on some of these other things first.

    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

I have checked. Neither socket is working. Based on the responses I have had and the checks I have made, it looks like there could be a blown fuse in a consumer unit, but that unit is inaccessible without tampering with plenty of electrical equipment. See my previous post.

    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

That is what I understood from the electrician who fitted the socket. There are only two circuits on my premises, one for the sockets and the other for the lights. The electrician wired this extra socket to the same circuit as the other sockets. I have just checked the electrical board, and...

    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

That is what I thought as well, but I wanted to check if I was potentially missing something.

    What is an FCU?

    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

Yes indeed, it is a socket and it has no power! The main consumer unit is OK though. This socket is on the same circuit as all the others, and everything else is working fine.

    (Socket) not working (Ed.)

Hello, I have an extension plug fitted in my conservatory, as the photo shows. It was fitted a few years ago by an electrician, and it is wired to my mains network. Recently, I had some work done in my garden, for which the workers connected heavy equipment to this plug and, shortly afterwards...

dirty water marks on new rendering

Well, I’ve now done the job! I’ve cut a groove above the overhang in all the coping stones. This seems to be working: I’ve already seen water being caught by the grooves and dripping from the edge of the coping stones to the ground! On the first photo below, you can see a groove I have cut...

dirty water marks on new rendering

So, if I understand well, the grooves need to be cut into the sand and cement mix between the stones, as well as in the stones themselves. Is this correct?

dirty water marks on new rendering

Thanks for clarifying how the grooves work! I hadn’t understood that it was about water coming from the outer edges. The gaps between the coping stones are already filled as you can see from the photos, but maybe it’s worth adding a bit of mortar to complete the fill at the bottom?

dirty water marks on new rendering

Thanks for this advice. I’m not sure I understand you correctly though. Are you advising me to cut new channels and then fill them? I can’t see the point of cutting something and, then, filling the cut straight away. Or am I misunderstanding you? I think I understand your first bit, but I don’t...

dirty water marks on new rendering

With regards to the drip channels, are these the grooves that run along the lengths of the coping stones underneath those stones? If so, I can’t access these grooves because they are above the rendered wall. I attach four more pictures, two of them showing where the coping stone run ends at each...

dirty water marks on new rendering

Hello, I am posting here to get advice about dirty water marks that are appearing on my new rendering when it rains. Recently, I had my boundary walls and the front elevation of my bungalow rendered. I was happy with the job but, every time it rains, the water makes vertical marks on the...

    Dry Verges

Who is Mint? I live in Rotherham in South Yorkshire, would this person work there? And regarding your other comments, it seems that doing this job properly involves pretty serious work and actually using fixings, not just pushing the verges into place as the first guy did. What you are saying...

    Dry Verges

Hello, I need some advice about replacing some dry verges on my bungalow. I had some dry verges fitted to the front of my bungalow a couple of years ago and, recently, a couple of them have fallen off, as you can see on the photo. Since they were fitted, I have discovered that the roofer who...

rainwater leak from wall into bedroom

Hi, Here are some photos. You can easily see the patched cracks and holes in the rendering outside. Inside, the arrows show the points of entry. The surface where the arrows are is a horizontal surface, facing down, above the window recess.

rainwater leak from wall into bedroom

Hello, I'm posting here to ask for advice about a rainwater leak into my bungalow. Rainwater is leaking through the external wall into my bedroom. I've already tried to fix the leak twice, and each time the fix has worked for a while, but the leak keeps coming back. I'm not sure what to do now...
