Hi Dan Appreciate your post was 2010 but Ihave exactly the same problem with cracked in painted ceiling paper. I am trying your fix. Caulk, Polyfiller fine crack paint then vinyl brilliant white. How did it work for you? Over time did the crack(s) come back? Best John
