Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Just to sum up, the lighting turned out to be a less immediate concern. I took my LT7 to the house on Sunday and began by testing sockets on the ring main, and a radial spur that is taken directly from the fuse box - I can't call it a CU. Live to Neutral loop impedance was around .4 ohms, but...

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Thanks John. Seems at least that the problem should not be caused by any intolerance of the LE bulbs, and may be something mechanical rather than electrical. It's easy enough for me to try changing one of the holders, and I should be able to give that a go next Sunday.

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Thanks for these suggestions. I will make a fuller inspection the next time I visit. The bulbs are standard Philips LE bayonets. My daughter initially blamed the bulb-replacing skills of her partner, but repeated attempts to get the LEs to work in all the holders failed. Some worked, some never...

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Softus, would higher resistance in the circuit explain why LEs, specifically, might not work? I have to say I am hoping I don't have to read up how the electronics in an LE bulb operate!

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Thanks Plugwash, you're right. But if there are loose connections, why would tungstens work and the le bulbs not? I think I am looking for a reason to bring in the landlord to get the place checked independently. If there is a problem in the lighting circuit, I'd half expect problems...

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Yes, I have the gear (and care!) to do that the next time I visit the place - it is 40 miles from where I live. If you think voltage could make the difference between tungstens and fluorescents, meaning one could work and the other not, then I might suggest the landlord/letting agency is...

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

No pressure Breezer - but can I just add that though I'm posting for the first time, I have drawn for years on the advice that you and other regular contributors like Banallsheds give in this forum - it's my bible. So I know you guys must be able to come up with a reason ..............

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Yes, the lamps seem fine and work off the ring main. I have lamps from the same batch here at home, where we are almost all-fluorescent.

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

None of the lamps are low voltage halogens - just standard Philips 240V Softones, 12W and 20W.

Replacement low energy lamps fail to work

Can anyone explain what might cause low energy lamps to fail to light up when they are used as straight replacements for tungsten bulbs which were working fine? These lights are on the lighting cuircuit, not plugged in to the ring main. None are controlled by dimmer switches. This is in an...
