    Making good after re-wire

OOOO, Can of worms sucessfully opened!! I'll be placing all the wires inside oval conduit so its easier to plaster and can be pulled out and re-wired. Slightly odd, but it will be easier for the next sparky that comes to it and thinks, "that guy put conduit in so I could save chasing the...

    Trunking

Cheers for the quick replies. I'll probably use oval conduit seen as though all the walls are going to be back to the plaster for re-skimming with all the chases cut out. Seems a tad lazy to have the cables plastered in and slightly awkward for the next person that re-wires, although that...

    Trunking

Just had a quick search and couldn't find anything relating to this. Go easy if its an obvious question but if I don't ask I will never know the best way to do it!! Right, now the excuses are out of the way... I've been reading around the 17th ed regs and part p and can't find anything about...

    Making good after re-wire

Guys, thanks for all the responses. You don't need to use steel capping from a regs point of view in relation to chases to switches and sockets as long as the cables run in the safe zones. Outside of this you do need to cap the wires though, so I'll be doing this when running the cables...

    Making good after re-wire

1john, I am using an angle grinder and that does all make sense. The stipulation in the regs is partly what you said and partly the depth that cables need to be at before rcd protection isn't required. This isn't going to be applicable as I can't run every chase 50mm deep into the wall due to...

    Loft insulation

Holmslaw, I know its notifiable but thanks for the warning, I've got a sparky through a couple of refferences that is happy to test and certify my work. Hes agreed to do three visits, planning it out, after 1st fix then after 2nd fix to test it and sign it off. I've got almost all of it...

    Loft insulation

Thanks for the quick response. Is this the only way round the issue of the loft insulation? If I do clip to the rafters am I OK to just span the rafters when I need to or should it be in any type of conduit? Thanks again.

    Making good after re-wire

Guys, I'm re-wiring my house and getting it certified by a qualified sparky but wanted to ask you how deep the chases need to be from a plasterer's point of view to prevent any cracking/anything else that can go wrong with plaster (pardon the ignorance but I hardly know anything about it! too...

    Loft insulation

so I would clip to the rafters and then drop the cable down to the ceiling roses? what about the runs to the switches? these will have to pass through the gaps in the joists so I will come across the same issue won't I? Thanks for the answer on the fan.

    Loft insulation

Guys, Another question, I'm thinking of drilling all the holes for the cable runs on the top floor and getting the cable laid in advance of project re-wire but am worried about the type of cable I need to use. Im going to be using method 101, clipped to the joists when I am running the...

what causes motorised valves and pump to run when boiler and

my new Worcester Bosh has a 'eco' setting which when switched off results in the boiler coming on occasionally in order to pre warm the water. Never understood it myself, why people cant wait the 10 seconds it takes for a modern combi to get hot! If it is your wiring someone on here will...

just had a look at the new main fuse, and have noticed that the guy didn't put the wire security tags on the main fuse... any comments from anyone on my last question about what im getting by paying for a pme upgrade if all that happens is the 16mm earth is connected to the incoming neutral?!

Its not TN-S currently. Its TT. They came and changed the fuse but said I would need to book in for a pme upgrade once the electrics within the property was up to standard. I presume by this he means correctly bonded etc. He said he looked at the plans before he came and there isn't an earth...

Thanks, I'll give that a try at dinner and see what is said. The location of that main isolator fuse is about 6 meters from the CU (i know thats outside of reg's!) Another question is if they change the earthing system from TT to one of the others am I OK running a 16mm earth cable from...

I'm not putting any great faith in the supply company changing the isolator fuse any time soon...its been a while and the are 'getting round to it'! If I install / have installed an earthing rod with this being on the CU side of the supply does this break any rules? also, if the supplier ever...

Guys, I'm looking at having / doing a re-wire in our house and have been speaking to a few electricians who are willing to advise, check while all chases are exposed and floorboards are up, recomend changes and finally sign off. I've been researching and reading and am not a complete...

    House Re-wire.
