    Long self tapping screws

Battens are difficult to identify. Shame that self tappers are only for metal and plastic. Thanks Btup and Woody.

    Long self tapping screws

I have an extension with an outside weatherboarded wall. Behind the weatherboards are 50mm of insulation boards, and then a 215mm thick block wall. If I want to hang something that is quite heavy on the weatherbosrds, I would like to get a fixing into the block wall. Are self tapping screws...

    Taping a weeping joint

Well it's a covered up now with pipe insulation, fibre blanket and boards. Basically what he did was to get me to turn off the water and turn on all taps. He cut one arm of tee junction to drain residual water, and un-soldered the other two arms. He then put an extension onto where he cut the...

    Taping a weeping joint

I've got if fixed now by a local plumber who wore mask and gloves. He was able to access the leaking joint without affecting too much other areas. I liked BODD's idea about crimping. But best to be a plumber in case you over tightened with the pliers. If I could not have got a plumber, one...

    Taping a weeping joint

The images show the t-joint. Where it had been weeping I replaced the damp ceiling board with a wood plate hence the screws you can see. I have been putting a sponge and tissue underneath the joint that is why you can't see any wetness on the plate. Thanks for taking an interest.

    Taping a weeping joint

Thanks Andy and Rob. That's good warning advice. The problem is that we are covid vulnerable and my wife is scared of visitors. I know needs must and all that but if I did put the tape on how long might I have before I would have to call in a plumber?

    Weatherboarding / Featherboarding

I'm trying to get weatherboarding to match what is on a house extension that was added 20 years ago. The weatherboarding as installed at the thickest end is 16mm thick x 140mm wide x 5mm at the thinnest end. I've tried three national timber merchants and all they stock is a sawn so-called ex...

    Pole chainsaws

I usually use someone to do the high hedges but I'm not sure, because of his personal situation, whether he will be available come the autumn. I don't want to find out now, again because of his situation. And I don't want to ask someone else and risk offending him. I am very very happy to pay...

    Pole chainsaws

A pole with a chainsaw head. I saw some power line people using a long battery one to clear branches and it seemed lightweight and very easy to use. I have tried the extended hedge cutters but had to sell it as it was too heavy and unwieldy.
