Some advice please.
Our 1960s bungalow has a raft foundation with approximately 40mm of screed (no insulation). Is it possible to replace the screed with insulation, and is it likely we would "feel" the benefit? I appreciate it is likely expensive and would not make sense financially...
Thank you for the response @freddiemercurystwin.
Ignoring the gain/cost argument for a moment, what would be the easiest way to determine the existing screed depth?
Good afternoon,
We have recently bought a 1960s bungalow which has an uninsulated raft foundation. I am looking at whether it is worth removing the old screed and adding insulation before re-screeding.
The problem I have is that I don't know the depth of the existing screed. Is the only option...
Thanks for the reply.
The block has 4 floors.
What combination of bricks would give 15.5" thickness? 9" bricks are 4.25" wide, so 9+4.25=13.25. This leaves 1.25" for cement and then the internal lime render. Sounds plausible.
The motivation for the insulation is that the room gets cold...
Good morning all,
I have a third-floor Victorian flat (circa. 1900) and I have always assumed that it had solid walls, however the walls are 15.5" thick. The brick pattern doesn't help as the wall is so thick you would expect to see the ends of the bricks as well as sides, see below...
